Default Escort Passport 8500 (non X50) manufacture date?

I recently bought an Escort 8500 (non X50) on Ebay. The tag indicates it would be an S7 model - but the mfr date says '1709'. Isn't that far beyond when any of the S7's would have been made? For that matter, wasn't the 8500 all done with by then? Does the tag mean it's a refurb or ??? Just wondering. (I also got an 8500 x50 with blue display and an '04 mfg date on the tag - works great and cost me $49 incl shipping on Ebay.)

I'd appreciate any info on how such a late mfg date could be on my 8500 w/ S7. Thanks.

FCC ID of QKL8500 is indeed an S7 platform detector.

It was a terrific platform in its day, but I believe it is not "updatable" to support TSR nor can it support Escort Live! connectivity.

I believe any detector today which does not have software processing to support K-band CAS rejection either in TSR, TFSR, TMF, or advanced M5 CAS signal analysis is really unusable today. The falses from K-band CAS systems will drive you absolutely crazy. Plus Laser detection (to newer guns) will be deficient, except perhaps in a V1 and/or Whister detector. Older Escort and Beltronics detectors will not see a variety of "new-fangled" lasers.

Thanks for the info... I think maybe I'll sell off the 8500 while I can still get back what I paid for it, I'm happy to keep the older but later 8500 X50 blue. I live in a rural / suburban area and there's not an awful lot of the TSR stuff though occasionally I do get a quick blast from some passing SUV with the new type cruise control. Thanks for giving me enough info to decide what to do. I always used to have V1's but got away from a detector for a while, and for my local driving I don't know that I need to spend that much just to clue me in when there's a cop in the vicinity.

Good luck...and don't forget to pack with Waze, no better countermeasure at doing just that.
