Question Results from Aug. 17th RD Test Inconsistent with the Results from the Off-Axis Test?

Results from Aug. 17th RD Test Inconsistent with the Results from the Off-Axis RD Test?

I have been looking at the results of both of these Radar Detector tests lately and I have a few questions.

Off-Axis Test: Guys of LIDAR - Radar Detector Test - July 2007
Normal August 17th Test: Guys of LIDAR - Radar Detector Test - August 2007

Questions:
1. In the Aug. 17th test the 9500i performed almost as well as the V1 in KA band, it was sometimes just 10 feet short of the V1, however in the Off-Axis test at 0 degrees, so basically the detector was mounted straight as it would normally on KA band the V1 outperformed the 9500i significantly instead of there being a difference of about 10 feet there were differences of sometimes 1200 feet. Why is there such a huge difference where in both tests it was KA band and both were 0 degrees?

2. Why was the x50 outperforming the newer 9500i at 0 degrees on KA band in the Off-Axis test but in the standard August 17th test the 9500i destroys the x50?

3. Is there any hope for escort to have the same off-axisdetection as the V1 or does Valentine have some sort of patent on their horn design?

Thanks

That's just what happened, we were surprised ourselves by the 9500i's performance in August. Rumor has it that the earlier 9500i's weren't all that sensitive, and then later some re-engineering went on that tweaked it for more sensivity.

Sure, there's some hope for it. Believe it or not, part of a detector's performance in off-axis radar lies with the software.

Professor I have a modification that I am working on for all Escort and Bel products to dramatically increase off axis detection

-Jimbonzzz I have an earlier 9500i but I just sent it in to them last week to get the "ramp-up" fix, do you think this service will also increase the sensitivity to what the newer units are capable of?

-Happyass is the modification you’re talking about something that anyone can easily implement?

I think some manufacturers may consider off axis detection a bad thing and try to minimize it. It is going to be a function of how tight the antenna's forward gain will minimize signals off axis like door openers. They will ask themselves, where is the radar and where is the source of falses. Most falses after all are off axis (except Cobras ) A general rule of thumb is the more the antenna's forward gain, the less the reciever will see to the side.

I can't answer that for certain, and I doubt if anyone else would be able to say for sure either unless they work for Escort. My guess would be no, because they likely would have to make hardware changes for the sensitivity, and probably only a software flash for the ramp-up.

Sorry ZJamaican, HappyA$$ isn't serious, and I don't think he meant to hijack your thread. He's simply making fun of another member who posts on these forums called MEM-TEK. You see, MEM-TEK is the nicest and most enthusiastic guy you would ever meet. But, he also likes to post things that are made-up, and just talks a lot of BS in general. I think HappyA$$ was making fun of a recent post MEM-TEK made in another thread.
