Default booming and zooming ... help

Hello, my name is superfweaky, and I admit to being powerless over my need for speed; my addiction to ... driving it like I stole it. Ever since State Farm refused to renew, and the Texas Dept. of Public Safety nailed me with a speeding-ticket points-system surcharge, I’ve known that a radar detector is in my future. It looks like I’m also gonna need a good laser jammer, too. The sad fact is, I just can’t drive 55. If there’s a good thread on this site that sums it all up for a semi-techie femme, please point me in that direction. If there’s a model most everybody knows will get me through this rough period in life, I'd be most grateful (not budget, not top of the line; I'm more of middle-of-the-road).

I searched Yahoo Answers and found this: “Escort Passport 8500 X50; Valentine One (V1); Beltronics RX65; Beltronics STi; Always use a "rabbit" (follow another speeding car!!) A rabbit sets off instant on traps first so your radar can pick it up; Get a laser jammer. Not easy to pick the right one and not easy to install but its indispensable for jamming the cops laser gun so you have time to slow down. The radars have laser detection but its just as good as warning you to pull over.” Does this sound about right?

At this point--any point, really--I’d rather not spend the money on higher insurance, tickets, radar detectors…I don’t even know if I’m eligible for defensive driving again for this latest ticket, since I’m in the surcharge points system now.

For the record, I’ve had a spiritual awakening and don’t drive like a NASCAR racer all the time now; I think just a helpful little "beep, beep, beep" reminder every now and then will help end this bad habit for good and all... (I know, that’s what the cruise control was supposed to do, but things are different this time around...)

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs...

welcome to the forum, Ur research so far sounds correct to me. I'll be honest, a RD wont automatically make u immune to speeding tickets but it will help u minimize the amount of tickets u get. Best RDs in the market rt now r (in order from least expense to most):

    -Valentine One
    -ESCORT 9500ix
    -Bel sti-r
    -ESCORT 9500ci

Here r the jammers ranked from best to worst:

    1. Laser Interceptor
    2. Laser Pro Park
    3. Blinder
    4. Laser Mask
    4. ESCORT ZR4/ZR3
    4. Laser Star

Check out this link for more info on jammers: Radar Detector Tests and Reviews by Guys of LIDAR - LASER

Keep scanning the forums for any questions u have and feel free to ask anyone here questions

Waaaaay out of me price range, little red corvette. Preliminary price checks put me at around 400 bucks for a halfway decent RD (unless I was too drunk last night when I checked), & that's still more than I need to pay right now.

If I can't get a decent hand-me-down from somebody more (...evolved, advanced?...) than me for around 200 bucks on eBay, then I'll just have to find true religion & get a regulator put on the old hoopdee...a nice aluminum-foil wrapped brick under the gas pedal. What is better than a brick, my new friend, for around $200-400? I don't imagine I'll rack up 3k in speeding tickets in the next 10 yrs, making any equipt I purchase obsolete before then. (After all, I might be eligible for defensive driving for this latest one.)

In short, aim lower: she's driving a Shetland pony. But don't snark: I already did that meself with the brick-as-regulator...

I figure 1 ticket runs in the $1500 - 2000 cost once you factor in higher insurance costs for the next 3 years. It sounds as if you have had more than one already.

Speed in real life is the same as one the track, speed cost $. The faster you want to go the more it cost.

Even with the best countermeasures the game is stacked against you. You have to be good all the time, LEO only has to get lucky once. All you can do is limit the damage.

Even with a top of the line detector and laser jammers you are looking at over $1K.

The cheapest RD, jammer pair that could be effective right off the top of my head is the Passport 8500 along with a Blinder M25.

Buying from authorized dealers you're total for those is going to be 529 + shipping.
Escort 8500 from Escort on Ebay: $150
    Blinder M25 from buyradardetectors:$379

Thanks, Clay. This is exactly what I was looking for, & probably what I'll wind up having to pay; after the smoke clears, ~1k even sounds reasonable: point taken about ins., &tc.

btw, the YouTube vid is interesting, especially since I'm such a rube to this game (and what a daunting learning curve it's going to be: the gps-like airport-lady voice is a far cry from way back when, back in the day, when the aunt's vette's RD went beep-beep-beep...)

Probably the wrong-age-wt-income-temperament-gender-&tc., to be getting into RDs & jammers, and while it's been fun to catch the vibes from young pups who rockit 'n' roll slyly up to red lights, only to test glance over & see li'l old...(me...stupid.old.granny-grrrrl.driver....gggrrrr...) I'm going to have to cut this crap out...seriously...

Thanks, li'l red corvette, and other guy, too...if I were a master gamer, if I get to the next level, maybe I'll need that kind of gear (?). My best non-RD tip (hey, they only get me 0.005% of the time, so I always treat 'em very respectfully, it's a karma thing): Never apply brakes; just ease off the gas. Best regards, sf

You have that right, if you get stopped treat them with respect and courtesy. You stand a better chance of getting a warning that way.

LEO's are just like other people with a very nerve racking job to do making traffic stops. They have no idea who they are pulling over, so the quicker you put them at ease the better off things will go. I'm sure there are jerks out there, just like in every other profession, but for the most part they are just doing a job, one that most of us don't want to do.
