I am Steve, and I joined because my son and I have had a long-time interest in the use of radar equipment. I am FCC registered and am not involved in law enforcement in any way.
One fun project happened when we tested radar for my son's science project to see how quickly radar could detect types of metallic, urethane, enamel, and lacquer paints on cars traveling over 35mph . The rumor in the early 90's was that some cars (ie Ford Taurus) were not easily detected by X or K radar units because the vehicle contour and/or car paint tended to not reflect the radar beam as quickly. What we learned is that metallic paint is extremely reflective and shows up far more quickly than other types of paint.
Thanks to ebay auctions and the Dayton Hamvention over the years, we have purchased the following radar equipment for our experiments:
Kustom Signals "Golden Eagle" with a set of Ka-Band Antennas
Kustom Signals "Silver Eagle" with a set of Ka-Band Antennas
MPH K-55 with K-Band Antennas
MPH K-55 with X-Band Antennas
Hawkeye radar jammer
We are only hobbyists with an interest in radar.
