welcome...try a v1
in my opinion a bel65 is a good choice I will actually finally get to test one next week, what type of mixed feelings are you getting about it?
welcome to the forum
Look at the GOL tests and decide for yourself
used it a few years,loved it,but a zombie now
Well, I might recant that statement.
I just got an rx65, firmware 6.5. My last detector to own and use was in 1984 so... a lot has changed. I didn't understand how radar is received by the detectors now days. In '84, I don’t think there was moving radar and certainly not all the bands like now. I didn’t feel good about the unit "ramping up" rather non-proportionally. I wanted to use the unit in dark mode and just listen for the beeps. It seemed impossible to do as the unit only goes off “ramps up” when you’re on top of the traffic unit.
I turned the unit to its tactical display, turned off automute, and turned on every band, and set it to highway, after doing this, the 65 starts to make sense.
I think one of the things that was throwing me off was the automute because as you get closer to a radar unit the unit goes quieter; kind of contrary to what your mind is expecting. Also the standard bar graph alert didn’t seem to match the beeps.
After changing from the stock setting and seeing how the unit responds to, stationary, moving, in a curve, trailing behind, and passing with radar facing forward, I get the picture of just how these units work.
My only gripe might be that it reads a one on the scale great but does not climb to 2 or 3 as progressively as I would expect. False alarms are minimal and/or rather expectable and obvious.
Maybe I was a bit hasty, there is a bit of a learning curve here, I’m starting to get a feel for it.
Glad you like it,i use to have mine in highway all the time, and yes you dont get alot of falses.served me very well.
The worst traps to fall into are Constant On radar traps. IMO: If you have an RD and pay attention to it and it saves you from one or two of those it's paid for itself.
But if you want to get serious, get a V1 or an Escort 9500x.
But keep in mind, there's no pressure to get serious

We had moving radar at least as early as the early 1970s, if not earlier. And the only band that has been added since 1984 is Ka band. Things really aren't any more complicated than they were. What has significantly changed is enforcement tactics and the features available on detectors. Sounds like you are pretty observant of things, so you're not going to have any problems coming up to speed on the hobby!
