    Default New here!

    Hi everyone!

I just joined today wanting to learn about two particular radar detectors the V1 and Passport 9500 series. I am int he market to purchase one but I am stuck between the two. My current ride is a 2010 BMW 535i and I am looking to invest in a good detector for my new car.

    Thanks!

What type of driving do you do most? Highway or city. The V1 is best for highway driving as it does not filter signals as heavily as the 9500 ix. The ix is better in city driving as the GPS locks out the false alerts.

Both are good radar detectors, but neither will save you from laser. for that you will need a jammer.
Valentine One (3.858 Ice Cream Truck, 3.812 in Vette)
4 Head LI (On Vette) (7.11 CPU Regular heads front, HP Heads on the rear)
    9500ci (On Vette)

LI Quad (On Ice Cream Truck)

LI Dual (On SRX, 7.06 CPU)

ProLaser II, ProLaser III, Stalker LZ-1, LTI Marksman & Laser Atlanta "R" (looking for an Ultralyte LRB)

    2008 Corvette Z-51 Coupe

    Escort 9500 ix (Cadillac SRX)

And the occasional cop too. But hey, if you can afford a $500 dollar radar detector, you shouldn't have any problems affording a few tickets too.

    Valentine 1 - $400

    Pros:
    Superior Sensitivity
    Superior Off-Axis on 33.8, 34.7, and K-band
    Superior Reaction Time
    Superior Laser Detection
    Directional Location Arrows
    Bogey Counter
    Best Ramp-up
    Front Mounted Controls
    Cons:
High false rate on K band
Moderate potential for suppression of 35.5 Ka alerts (J-outs)
Difficult to read band indicators on display

    9500ix - $500

    Pros:
    Above Average Sensitivity
    Superior Off-Axis on 35.5
Progressively low false rate in regularly driven areas
    Frequency Read-out
    Cons:
High potential to lock out actual LEO signals
High potential to miss quick-triggered instant-on signals
    Top and side mounted controls

GET a v1 if you want to hear it go off all the time

We should also ask BMW Guy where he lives (state) and if he lived in or frequently travels through Virginia or D.C. If he lives in VA, then the Beltronics STi is the only way to go. If he lives in TX, then I would recommend a STi for TX too since there are too many rumors of DSP using Spectres to nab motorists who are using radar detectors.

Welcome to the forum. Go with the V1 if you drive on the highway most of the time and the 9500ix if you do most of your drivng in the city

Are you from the BMW forum where djram80 posted?

I'm new here too. I stumbled upon while reading about a stupid speed trap. I really do need to get a detector as the one in my last car was demolished. Anyone know a decent but not overly priced detector?

You think the potential is high. While I certainly agree it is possible, I don't know about high. I've driven through areas that use K band police radar with door openers locked out and have never locked out a LEO (that I know of). If the potential was high then the technology would be thrown out/fixed due to a large amount of complaining/ticketed customers.
