Default Hello from the Great Lakes State

    Thought I would say hi.
Don't laugh (I know it's a piece of crap but it works).
My current rd is a 10 yr old Radio Shack with laser.
I think It's time to upgrade....

I have a 2003 Mustang Cobra. I live in the country so most all of my driving is highway. The Cobra is not my daily driver but I do drive her on long trips across country.
My daily driver is a Ford E-150 so it's a big target.

I would like to have one with the camera location and rd stealth against the rd detector - detector. I have looked at the veil product and is it really worth the $99 and have to re apply every 4 months or so.

There is only one option that has both of these feautures and it is the 9500ci.

Veil lasts alot longer than that usually. I assume your Cobra is garaged, so that will keep it out of most weather. Weather is the enemy of Veil. You should get at least a year out of it. Veil is a nice compliment to a laser jammer, but is not useful as a standalone defense.

You can attach pictures now, but you need 15 posts to link pictures.

You don't need to be stealth to RDD unless you frequently go to Virginia or Canada. Insisting on this feature will greatly narrow your range of choices.

Unless you want to pay $1600 for the Escort 9500CI, I'd recommend purchasing seperate products for camera and radar detection (the Escort 9500IX has both at around $500, but it is NOT stealth). You could get the new Redline from Escort for $500 (it is the cheapest stealth detector, along with the Bel Sti Driver, but it is newer than the Driver, supposedly more sensitive, and costs the same) and add a Cheetah C1 or Mirror for $250 or $300. For around $60 extra, you could link it to your RD via an interface. The Cheetah GPS mirror is a nice mirror too.

Everytime you whine about it, it goes up by another 15.

I'm not sure why RD stealth would be important to you in Michigan, unless you're driving in Ontario quite a bit. If so, then you are definitely limited to two dash-mount detectors: the BEL STi and the Escort Redline. Neither of them has any of the other features you are looking for though.

Not to worry. Cheetah makes two GPS devices that provide the same red light camera and speed trap warnings that come with the Escort 9500 series. Pairing one up with your detector gives you all those same benefits without the risks of an integrated system. Click on the Cheetah in my signature for more info on that.

If you don't need stealth after all, you suddenly have a lot more options for superior performance and features in one package. And if you do primarily open highway driving, most would agree that the Valentine 1 is the best all-round choice.

To reiterate what djrams80 already said, Veil usually lasts significantly longer than 4 months. We have reports of over a year and a half with no degradation in some applications. Detergent strength car washes and windshield cleaners will kill it, but with hand care it will last a good year in most cases. It is very definitely worth the money. But again, by itself, it is nothing. It helps the performance of a jammer. It does nothing to replace a jammer.
