I am in the DFW area in suburb city of Plano.
I have my own business called Network Connections.
I do onsite computer repair for both Mac and PC as well as networking, Surveillance system installations and TV/Home Theater installs.
I also have a website selling dash cams for the every day driver. Back in 2002 my wife got ran off the road on the way to work and the driver did not stop. Since we had no proof to provide the insurance company, we had to pay the deductible and car rental.
With proof, the uninsured motorist policy would have covered the entire expense. At that moment, I thought there was no reason with today's technology that a dash cam for drivers to purchase under $300 was not available.
Of course, trying to develop one at the time was a task over my head. However, the time has arrived and there are some products available to do this. I wanted a product that starts recording as soon as you get in the car and start it up and is dependable and reliable so you have the video should you need it. I found a camera that fits this need after trying 6 or more products. Some as complicated as being wired into your system so it records speed and braking. But I wanted something the everyday person can install like any GPS or radar detector. After testing many, I chose my flagship product.
I use a Whistler brand radar detector to warn me of my speed when smokey is in the area. And I want to feel confident that I have a video copilot watching my back as well for those nuts that we all have to watch out for. Not to mention the potential to actually sell a video to an insurance company if you were there and got a recording of it happening in front of you.
I was sitting at a red light once as a car made a left and got hit. Once spun around and hit me. Nothing I could do but sit there and brace my coffee cup.
The insurance company's were arguing over who's fault. I suspect one would have been willing to pay for a video showing who was a fault.
I think the usefulness of having a dash cam is overwhelming. Maybe one day a large percentage will have one.
Just as we all have a need for radar detection. I won't leave home without either.
