Default Need Advice- Audi V1 Install

    Hello everyone,

I am a noob here and it shows. I have just got a V1 (3.872) and I just ordered a full color CD(Concealed Display) I would like to flush mount it in my dash possibly in place of my credit card holder.
Very close to what Kpatz has done with his CD but maybe using body filler and making a good looking custom piece.

Can anyone chime in on how they did theirs (if you have an Audi) and if you don't made some general advice would help too

    Thanks In advance

I don't have an Audi but I can advice that you mount the CD near your speedometer.

Here's where I installed my concealed display (CD):

It's the perfect spot since it blends in with the red Audi dash lighting, and only a small amount of trimming was needed to make it fit. Plus I made a spacer using some of the plastic from the original CD case (see left side of the CD). I can quickly glance at it when I get an alert. The problem with installing it in the gauge cluster is there isn't really any good spot that won't block the view of a gauge or warning light.

My install is a hack job, as I didn't have the tools to do it right back then, but someone with more skills and time can make it look really nice. Some day I may improve mine, but I'll probably construct my own concealed display first.

That V1 display does look like it came from Audi. It really does match the dash lighting pretty much perfectly. Nice install!

Well you haven't been banned so you haven't broken any too badly.

Now that you have at least 1 post under your belt you'll be able to post your future inquiries in the proper places.

I didn't remove the radio (I don't have the special tools required).

I pulled the credit card drawer out, and removed the lower dash panel (beneath the steering wheel), and fished the wires through. I might have had to drill a hole to get the CD wire up into that spot but I don't recall now. I installed the CD the same time I installed the hardwire for the V1. I also installed a kill switch for the V1 in the "owner's manual pocket" beneath the steering column.

Here's the original thread with the pics I took during the install: http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...y-audi-a4.html
