Talking First post, First radar detector.

So I found out that I am driving to Vegas next Tuesday so i decided I need a good radar detector for the trip. So I read a few threads on here and ordered myself the Valentine 1. Did I do ok or what?

Should be here about tuesday or wednesday from what their web site said. It was to late on friday afternoon to call in the order.

Any tips tricks or hits that might help me out, or is it just plug and play?

Welcome to the forums. You did an amazing choice on the RD. I would suggest running the RD is A mode and understand the beast before u start making changes. RD's are usually considered plug and play. Just make sure you mount your V1 as high as possible, on the right or left side of the RVM.

I suggest you plug and play, but if you want to fine tune that's what I'm here for.

Putting a radar detector on your dash and turning it on will not give you a licence to speed. Do NOT think you are invisible now that you have a top level detector.

For the first part of your drive do not go insane drive like a reasonable person until you have trust in your detector

Turn off X band if you are in California or you will hate it. Don't believe anyone who says Big L or little L will help, just turn it off, trust me.

Welcome to the forum Excellent choice choosing the V1! My advice is to mount your detector high near your RVM. Also, keep in mind that the V1 will not save you from police laser. It is a radar detector.

Well thats kinda what I am wondering, will it do just fine out of the box or are there some specific settings I should setup right off the bat. Kinda help point me in the right direction instead of just fumbiling through it like I always tend to do(then read the instructions).

    High and center, check.

Hey man I ride that bike down there in my signature on the street every day with no RD other tham my eyes and gut fealings. So I know where and when.

I am actualy going to be in a U-haul(private moving van that HOPEFULLY will go over 65) for 2 days is the only reason for my purchase. I wanted one for a while now but could not justify if for around town use to the wife. But since she will be riding shot gun and she knows how much the tickets cost "from experience" she was easily persuaded.

If you are in the middle of nowhere, turn option 6 off, otherwise leave it on to prevent falses on Ka band.

Just got my self thinking, Is there any way that when I get home that I can mount this on my bike? I have seen people on the motorcycle forums posting about RD's on bike but I never realy read any of them. Seems simple enough all I would need to do id find power and a place to mount right?

Question, If a cop sees this device will I get a ticket for it? Or will be more along the lines of pissing the cop off and having less chance of the cop being cool?

You can mount it on a bike but you need to have a speaker in your helmet. As for you question all chances of a warning turn into an instant ticket.
