Default New member looking for assistance with 9500ci

    Hi All,

    New member from Boulder, CO!

I am planning on purchasing a 9500ci next week and looking for suggestions on jammer | antenna placement. Also, I have gathered from reading other posts on the forum that I will be under protected on the jamming?! I am considering either Blinder M27/47 or LI Dual/Quad in addition to the ZR4. Not sure if I could use the 3 ZR4's on the front and put two more on the back, or I having the ZR4's on receive mode and hooking up the LI Quad or M47? Recommendations are welcome!

I am attaching a couple pics of the front of my rig. I will have to take on of the back next.

Normally we have front license plates here in CO, are you going to be leaving yours off or is this a new car?

Good question...I was already stopped for not having a front plate. I have it on now....it is under the trailer receiver mounted on the slope...it is not perpindicular to the ground, but rather quite angled.

I'll let other chime in about mounting the ZR4's I am really new to the Laser Jammer aspect. I asked about the plate so other would keep that in mind for you. My guess is you are going to be challenged getting coverage with the ZR4's because your truck is so big. I ended up going with Blinder M47's but my guess is your going to need LI's to protect your truck. After reading a ton here I wish I would have just gone with the LI's. I did consider going the the ci and using other jammers but in the end I decided it would be good enough to just use a xi with the M47's and a heck of a lot cheeper. Anyway good look with your install and welcome to the forum!

I would recommend you buy the most powerful jammers you can buy and pay extra for them (I am writing this way in observance of radar roy's new rule posted in the jammer forum). Given the size of your vehicle, the ci jammers may not be enough - may buy you time at longer distances but not JTG.

I would mount the 2 powerful front jammers directly underneath the headlights, and maybe on the bumper guard to have them as far forward as possible. I would place the front ZR4s more centrally on the lower bumper to protect the plate.

On the rear, ideal location for the more powerful jammers would be on the lower part of the tail gate where the black plastic is. If you go for the highest rated brand, you will find that their rear jammers are slim so it won't stick out too much. But if you consider that too visible, then place it as high on the bumper as possible at 25% and 75% positions on the horizontal axis. Place the rear ZR4 on the plate frame as usual.

    Thanks for the replies!

On the back should I be concerned about the spare tire? Or is that not a target?
Also, how much area do they cover?

Geneal rule is jammer heads will protect about an 18" diameter area. The new MX7 series and LI's though seem to do better than that.

While the front of your vehicle is black, that will help a lot, it's still huge. If you go Blinder I would think a minimum of 3 heads up front. I have an F-150 with a M27 on it and it provides great protection, however 2 M27 heads on the rear leaves me a bit vunerable and I'm planning to add a third head.

If it were me though I would plan on an M37 on the front and possibly an M47 on the rear if I went with Blinder.

Cliff can possibly make a recommendation on whether 2 HP heads would be needed on the rear or not. that back end is going to be a bear to protect. I think two regular heads would work on the front but Cliff would be best to chime in on that.

cat4's is one of the most experienced guys here and his perspective makes a ton of sense. on the back if you go for 3 heads, put one near or on the wheel. The wheel is a clear reflective target. A black wheel cover would also help.

For police laser, the 9500ci will not provide enough protection. The ZR4 jammers that come with the 9500ci are too weak to protect your large vehicle. I recommend getting the LI quad for front and rear laser protection.

Now, the 9500ci is a great radar detector against all radar bands. For antenna placement, mount the antenna with a clear view of the road to ensure maximum detection range.

    Thanks for all the advice.

Based upon your input, I think I will get the 9500CI and two (2) LI - Quad 4's. I am also concerned about the upper area my vehicle!? It has an expedition rack and tent on the roof. Is that a target? Or shouldn't I worry about anything above the windshield?

If I go with the 9500ci and the two Quads, should I put the ZR4's in receive mode to mitigate cross-talk/interference, or is that not a concern. Do you guys think that 4 LI heads on front and 4 LI heads on back with the ZR4's in receive mode is overkill?

    Thanks,
    Dan
