Default On the Down Low in NOVA

I was recently busted by the Northern VA state patrol for having the audacity to use a radar detector on the Dulles Toll Road. I was not speeding and was not stopped for speeding but was nabbed for having a detector. Somehow the state cops in VA are now able to detect detectors using some new technology. It now looks like I won't be able to detect these guys but they sure will be able to detect me. I now am wondering what my options are.

I joined this forum in order to hopefully get answers to questions like this.

It was probably a Spectre III? Did he say anything about how he picked you up? What RD was it? And did you turn it off as soon as you saw him?

    And welcome!

Your best bet is to either get the Bel Sti or the Redline. Both are undetectable...
Did u get a ticket? Do u still have the detector?

    Btw, welcome!

Bad news is you can't really detect a Spectre unit in a cops car, the good news is Bel defeated the Spectre about 4 years ago with the STi. Get a Redline, STi, STi-R, or a 9500ci and they won't be able to detect your RD. Just keep it out of sight and you won't have any issues.

We're getting more and more reports like this out of Virginia. There are four RDs that are undetectable:

    1. Escort 9500ci ($1600)
    2. Bel STi-R ($600) - Recently discontinued, but can still be found if you look hard enough.
    3. Escort RedLine - ($500)
    4. Bel STi ($450)

I agree, does not sound right. VA State usually give the Parkway to the Airport Police so that they have something to do. And the way it was written makes me suspect.

Nothing fishy to me. VA state police have Spectre IV's in all areas of Virginia although no particular area is saturated with Spectres. Spectres are definitely out there and the possibility of getting caught with a non-stealth detector is real.

Three law enforcement departments can write tickets and patrol the entire length of the Dulles Toll Road. And all 3 departments definitely do write tickets on the toll road.

Quoted source below: Frequently Asked Questions (IAD)
"Who has jurisdiction over the Dulles Toll Road?
The Virginia Department of Transportation built the Toll Road on Airport property. The Virginia State Police and Fairfax County Police have primary jurisdiction over the toll road. The Airports Authority Police also have jurisdiction on the Toll Road."
