    Default New guy from GA

Been reading these forms for a while now, finally considering investing in a jammer and higher end detector after spending $1500 in ticket and lawyer fees.

I just got a LI and am considering getting a Bel Vector 995 to replace the $60 Cobra I've been using. Any suggestions for a better radar detector in the same price range? (I can get a 995 for $150)

I would suggest you go for a V1 ($360 open box unit) or a 9500ix ($400 with radar roy special discount). If you're shelling out for LIs, you may as well round out a rock solid setup.

What part of GA? If you are in Atlanta it's mostly laser so you an get away with a lesser detector. If you live outside the metro area it's mostly radar and I would spend the $ on a good one, V1 or 9500ix.

The LI is actually coming as a christmas present from a good friend of mine. I wish I could actually afford one of those better detectors. $150 is kinda stretching it for my own budget, especially since I have to get my friend a way better present than I planned after the LI! I may actually hold off and stick with my cheapo Cobra, since I don't really plan on traveling much out of laser zone until the summer.

The main road I worry about is GA-316 between Atlanta and Athens, and I know its mostly laser until I get to Oconee County. I'm a UGA student and insane football fan, so I end up traveling all over the southeast going to games during football season.

Is anyone in the Atlanta area planning a jammer test within the next couple months? I'd love to get the system verified after I install it..

You should sell the Cobra for whatever you can get. A Refurb Escort 8500 for 150 or a used Escort C65 would be the way to go. And as Cat4 says radar is not a big issue around Atlanta - Laser is the issue.

I've seen both on 316 from Gwinnett to Athens. Good thing is most is CO instead of IO with radar. With all that traveling you really need a good detector also, radar is very prevalent across the SE and I see more and more I/O in my travels lately.

Since the super speeder law becomes effective in a few days it really would be a good investment to step up to a better detector. If you can't then I'd go the refurbed 8500 and try to use a lot of rabbits.

That Escort C65 sounds like the best deal to me, I can probably scrounge another $50 and get it new after the holidays... Not going anywhere outside a 5 mile radius of my house until then anyway (at least not with me driving), so I can just slow down, haha.

Have you seen any radar in Gwinnett or Barrow counties? The only place I've encountered radar is Oconee and Clarke. Even the Cobra has saved me from the CO radar plenty of times, but I'd definitely like some advance warning rather than the 2-second warning it gives.

Occasionally in Gwinnett and Barrow, but not often. Barrow more often than Gwinnett.

Gwinnett will run more radar here that's it's colder and also late at night when the traffic is sparse.
