Welcome aboard! I would go Veil first. Redlight cameras are searchable already so you can catalog their locations anytime. Also, consider saving for a jammer. The ZR3 will interface with your 8500 nicely but the protection is not the best.

Estimated saves in U.S. Dollars: $200

uh . . . if you are in metro Houston any time at all then I highly recommend a jammer. You have Laser in active use by all the major metro PDs. Harris County Constables, Metro, HPD, and the Harris County Sheriff's department. Not to mention suburban communities like Sugarland, Deer Park, Pasadena, Webster and League City.

    I'm down in Kemah.

I'm surprised no-one has said this already, but...

Veil is useless without a Jammer.

So get the Cheetah C50 camera detector. Get Veil when/if you get a weaker jammer like the Escort ZR3/4

Blinders are your best bet on a budget.

I would hold off on Blinder for the moment. I'm still trying to get mine serviced. They lasted a month before failing to alert or jam to any Lidar gun in testing. They still false on infinities though. I've got a few service requests out there so I would like to wait a couple of weeks before I offer up a thorough Blinder Bashing. It's possible these units may be brittle. If I did not have access to testing I would be screwed right now and not even know it.

Re Jammer - depends on your car. Escort ZR4 is a good value buy because you get front and rear protection for just over $400. However it is less powerful and only effective on Compacts and Sub-Compacts.

For mid and full-size sedans, the Blinder M27 for $480 is a more powerful jammer that would be effective but only protects the front. Putting it on front and rear would bring it up to $700-800.

The Laser Interceptor offers the best protection money can buy for 25% more than a Blinder. It is the only one of the jammers I mentioned which use actual Laser Diodes as opposed to LEDs.
