    Default New BMW 135i...

...By way of an introduction...We live in Boca Raton, FL and my wife and I have been looking for a replacement to our 11 year old Acura TL. When the AC finally went and not wanting to spend more $$ we went looking and when we saw / drove the 135i (looking at 328) decided that was the car. She loves driving our F150 Crew Cab as the family SUV so with her permission we acquired the new 135i for Christmas...both kids fit great and the kid seat for my 2 year old works great. We are not big folks so plenty of space in the back seat

...and boy...does this thing need an RD and possibly a laser jammer. I/we generally try not to speed and work off our need for speed on the track (NASA and CHIN clubs) with my track rat (S2000 - with V1 for around town). But this car is too easy to speed in and we both need in-town protection...

I already have the V1 (need to get updated - staying with S2K) from 3 years ago and haven't paid attention to RD tech...but times have changed and technology has moved on. Now looking at getting the 9500ix...and possibly a laser jammer. I know from experience these things pay for themselves rather quickly!

Merry xMas and happy holidays to all!

Welcome and congratulations on the new ride, the 135 is definitely a great car and a lot of fun.

Just curious as to why you're looking at something other than V1, which you already have. Is it for variety, GPS, something else? The 9500IX is a great choice, don't get me wrong, I'm just wondering what drew you to that RD.

For in town use the 9500ix is a great choice. Laser jammers are a nessecity in most turbans areas any more.

WELCOME: If you are looking at the IX. You might also look into the Redline RD.

welcome and congrats on the new purchase! i did the BMW Driving Experience at the Performance Center and we primarily drove 135s...we consistently described them as hot rods. INCREDIBLE speed and agility, definitely an amazing machine.

but yes, laser jammers are a must. i'm a tried and true V1 owner as well.

As to why not the V1 - local towns are moving to moving to red-light cameras which the GPS will help me locate (as long as I keep it updated...). Also - the number of false positives is huge. I generally drive 10-20 miles one way and more frequently than not take local roads as opposed to I-95, particularly during winter when the snowbirds clog the roads.

The V1 on my S2K works as I generally am going to the track or AutoX on I-95 or I-75. I may drive on A1A with the car and top down on nice days, but I'm in full cruise mode if on A1A.

So...looking for GPS capability and better management of in-town false alarms. I WILL miss the arrows on this unit - the V1 has been good to me. Also looking to give something else a try - gives me a chance to compare. From reviews, honestly it looks like you can't lose with either one...but V1 has no GPS so for in-town, big difference..

Oh yeah - forgot - Laser. Need to to educate myself on the jammers but from research seems like m27/M47 Blinder is top of the heap these days. Price is a bit ...but so are ticket prices these days.

Like I said, not really a racer / overly fast driver. Track experience has me concerned about consistency of road surface and around town you just don't know, not to mention having kids keeps that on-top of mind to behave when on local roads. This is primarily because it is too easy to do 45 in a 35 without thinking in this car. Many roads that were 45-60 are now 35 and 25...

Still fun to open for a blast on certain roads or kick it up to pass on I95...and for those times be good to be sure it clear...

Trailtow - if you could let me know of the shop you recommend. Always good to know someone feels they had good enough service to recommend . Know of any local places to buy at a fair price? I tend to find that the brick and mortars are fairly expensive and best way to get a fair deal is online, but figured I'd ask...

As to the car...this things is a beast. My S2K is supercharged and dynos at 304hp to the wheels. This car is 306 hp - at the flywheel I think...but it puts down so much torque in such a broad range it is unbelievable - 300 ft/lbs from 1500 - 5800 RPMs...my S2K comes alive at 5500 when the VTEC kicks so you know when you are pushing. With this you just leave the gear and push the accelerator and then hang on. I have the paddle shifter and it is unbelievable. Thought I'd hate this (concession to the wife) but actually it is almost as sporting as the S2K manual...

I'm fortunate - now need to protect my license with a bit of technology
