    Default Hello from Georgia!

    Hello Everyone!

I'm a new member from Johns Creek, GA. I joined RadarDetector.net because I'm a new driver and around where I live, in a <3 yr. old city of Johns Creek, the cops are out in full force ready to ticket people left and right. My family (very good drivers and most recently ticketed probably close to 10 yrs ago.) have gotten to know the police a little too well. 3 Tickets from 3 drivers in less than 3 months! I hope to be ticket-free during my many upcoming years of driving.

I hope that coming here will inform me of the countermeasures that I can use to prevent paying big money for 5+ PSL speeding offenses. I know that there's no better place to be when learning about radar, laser, and photo enforcement countermeasures.

Welcome to the forum. They give 5 over tickets in your area? That has revenue generation written all over it. What radar detectors are you looking into?

There's no fine in GA for speeding tickets from 1-5 over. They can not even use electronic speed detections means to give you a ticket in GA for anyything until you are 11 over.

If you got a ticket for 5 over fight it, it will cost you nothing in court, especially if they used radar or laser.

Yeah. They're pretty strict on ticketing drivers. And, I don't know if there's a 'Move Over' law in your state, but it's essentially a law that says that you can be ticketed if, when there's a cop puled over ticketing someone on the right shoulder (or median), and you don't move at least one lane over. It's very circumstantial in my opinion.

I'm looking into the Cheetah GPS Mirror and the Escort Redline because I usually travel to Virginia where my grandparents live and having a non-detectable detector sure would be a plus. I like the way the Cheetah mirror can be integrated into radar detectors. Also, I've been researching the kind of equipment that cops use and I've seen that Laser Atlanta SpeedLaser is a feared laser gun. Because I live around Atlanta, is there a heightened chance of my vehicle being targeted my that gun compared to if I lived elsewhere?

Thanks for that info. Some of the 5+ stories I've heard I thought were somewhat questionable. you know, the way stories change from person to person.

What you stated on the move over law is half of it. The move over law states that if a officer has someone pulled over, you have to slow to 20 under te psl if you are in the lane next to the shoulder or you have to get over a lane away from the officer.

Escort Redline is a good RD. It is brand new and we have found a couple glitches in a couple that we have tested. I'd also look into the Bel STi. It is also immune to RDDs. For laser, you'll have to get a laser jammer. Best laser jammer systems are Blinder and Laser Interceptor.

The move over law is very strictly enforced and very expensive. They can cite you if you do not slow well below the PSL (most LEO's I have talked to say 10 under) or move over 1 lane.

It's a big money maker for them, and I can understand why they enforce it after seeing some of the videos of LEO's getting hit my other cars.

I've seen cops posted in pairs on 316 on the way to Athens. One pulls over a car for speeding, and then the other pulls over a second car for a 'Move Over' law violation. Most times it's hard to slow down that much in such a short time when there's mild traffic and quickly moving to the next lane is, for me, usually the most dangerous choice.

I do think that motorists should always be aware of officers on the side of the road, they do risk their lives to protect us 24/7, but drivers shouldn't panic to move over or slow down and possibly cause an even bigger accident.

If they gave you a ticket for 5+ PSL, check the ticket for radar or laser use. If they used that for your speed its easy to get thrown out since only the state patrol is allowed to use radar/lidar to cite for anything less than 11+ PSL (except school, pedestrian and historical zones).

    Welcome to the site.
