I started reading threads on this forum after a long break from frequent speeding (around 3 years). I felt the speeding bug creep up on me the past month, but in order to keep my clean record going I felt that I needed to update my knowledge as the speeder detection technology improves. I was looking up slicktops and unmarked models (can't post links to the albums since I don't have enough posts) when I found this site somehow.
Many years ago when I was younger I tried the speeding thing, it was fun and although I never got caught I had one really close call one night. I was speeding on the left lane with my left blinker on and a cop saw me from the other side of the road. He was parked on the road due to construction. I saw him but I figured he would never be able to catch on. Anyway I kept driving on and as I approached my exit I saw a cruiser right behind me with no lights on, on my rear view mirror. I felt my stomach sink in but I did not loose my cool and did not slam on the breaks. By then I was already slowing down. I let go off the gas and let the car slow down even more. Then I took my exit and haven't been in a close call since then.
Since then I've switched to a sedan and only speed if it is an emergency. Also whenever I speed I only speed on certain sections of roads where I've never seen stops. I also take out of the path shortcuts and use my radar detector on those days when I know I will speed. I never solely rely on it and I always make use of my eyes and always watch for potential marked or unmarked cruisers.
I've learned quite a bit today and it seems that it is very difficult to get away from laser (which is becoming more widespread) and instant on, on large roads. I am glad I don't normally travel far. From what I've read it looks like I'm in luck and my old X50 still holds on my area since they run K and Ka bands around here.
From what I've gathered the best thing to do at this point is simply not to speed out my small daily travel zone. Unless I want to spend some serious cash on laser jamming which at this point is not feasible.
It looks like I'll be keeping my speeding to forza motor sport or the track if I ever get around to it. Still it is good to know what the traffic enforcement is up to these days.
