Thread: Null, sorry

  1. #1

    Default Null, sorry

The site will not let me browse without making a post.

I am in the process of installing a passport SRX.
I just made some nice brackets in the shop so the shifters will mount right under the (chrome) bumper.

I guess some veil is in order. Can you put that stuff on chrome without worrying about it streaking?

    I live in Ontario, Canada.
The car is a Datsun 240z (Think: Really old coupe with a long engine bay)

On the 240 Z, first install, then test before you add veil. Veil headlights first before thinking of chrome. I have never seen or heard of chrome being Veiled so I have no idea how it would turn out.

That doesn't make sense to me... you do need to make one introductory post here before you can post elsewhere, but browsing? I'll have to ask the admin people about that.

    Anyway, welcome to the forum.

    Won't bring it up again.

The headlights on the 240 are not enclosed in plastic. The lamps are (inside the headlight buckets), but I can't see veil being painted on that for a noticable effect.

I recently picked up some track headlight covers (for racing or auto-x) to cover the buckets, that I can paint veil over. I've yet to order the veil... It's a paycheck to paycheck thing.

The 240z has a large chrome bumper on the front and rear of it. I can just imagine a cop poiting his gun right at it.

I used the search function and came up with all sorts of info, but nothing that ansewerd this...
I am living in Ontario, Canada. Radar detectors are illegal and cops may seize them and fine you if you are caught with one. Our police also have "Radar Detector Detector's". The Passport SRX I am currently installing mounts remotely very nicely... but I'm not sure how invisible it is to the current Police technology.

If anyone cares to enlighten me... I'd rather not get ticketed.
It also makes logical sense that if a cop detects one, he won't be able to pinpoint it's location immideatly. So it I "see" him before he sees me... Is this why people in videos sometimes turn off their detector/system immideatly after it goes off (or they see a cop)?
I'm thinking of mounting a remote toggle switch next to the handbrake for this application. Any thoughts?

It might be this computer. Or my poor browsing abilities. I was trying to read the FAQ.

Only detectors immune to the current radar detector detectors are the STi, STi-R, 9500ci and Redline models made by Belltronics and Escort.

I guess there's not a way to "upgrade" then, without purchasing an entire new unit.

Would turning it off help me in this regard (should I mount the turnoff toggle)?

Should have gone one step up.

Turning off may help, the risk you run is if he's not running radar, but just searching for RD's with Spectre. If you don't see him in time you may be toast. If it's a bust area with lots of other traffic, it may be difficult for him to pick you out of the crowd if you kill it.

    Thanks!

Maybe I'll remount the radar detector a little further back under the grille.
The car rides pretty low already (about 2") so that should help as well.
