I'm new to these forums. I've lived in Houston for a few years. I drive a 99 Camaro and currently use a Beltronics V940 radar detector mounted above rear view mirror. It seems to work pretty well for K, Ka and instant on detection. I've been lucky a few times with instant on due to probably police ineptitude.
I just completed a drive from Houston to New Orleans and back to Houston. Encountered lots of K and Ka. Saw a fare share of lidar traps setup by stealth chargers in Texas, but I got lucky passing by. They were all either with a customer or setting up to find a new one. FYI New Orleans has the worst roads I've ever seen. Their roads lack quality and proper design.. One ways that take you to a cross road of 3 one ways that ....
I'm currently considering buying the Blinder M27 kit from radarbusters. The Camaro I drive is bright red. I have installed new head lights which I would guess are extremely reflective since they have not fogged up like the old ones. I keep the car registered in Florida which affords me the advantage of not having a front plate. The car has a black grill and the car is lowered about 1". My plan is to mount in the grill (not recessed). This would position the heads at the corners of my head lights. Would a M27 buy me the distance I need to slow down? Here is what I'm thinking:
All of my tickets in Houston have been lidar. Lawyer managed to beat em all so far without me taking a course or a deferment. The lawyer bills are adding up though. I usually do slow down to ~10 of the PSL when I'm coming over a hill or around a tight bend. HPD seems to pull you over when your speed is >10 over PSL, but DPS has pulled me for 5 over PSL before.
