    Default Greetings from Arlington, Va

    Hello to everyone,

I am new to this forum and hope to learn as much as possible about protecting my car/motorcycle.

I currently have a Escort 8500 X50 hardwired into my car. However, I have just realized that it can be detected in Va and might consider getting the STI. I will be looking to remedy this situation.

I drive a 2004 Audi S4 as well as a 2008 Suzuki GSXR -750. Both of which can very easily get me in trouble.

For all the experts on the site, I assure you that I will use the search button prior to posting and that I will heed your advice without questioning your knowledge.

I would greatly appreciate any help on finding the best pricing for a Blinder M27 and the Beltronics STI.

Also, if anyone is from around the NOVA area and can give me pointers on how they protect themselves, I would really appreciate it!

Welcome to the forum man, there are some NOVA members around here. I suggest you look into jammers as well, the highways are starting to get filled with it in VA. Yes they are illegal, but research the jam then slow to the PSL, kill jammers, and you will be fine. We are actually having a meet towards the end of May...you should check it out. VA and NC are the worst states to get caught speeding in the nation, as I'm sure you know...VSP hands out reckless driving tickets like candy. If you have any questions just ask.

    Thanks everyone,

I never thought I would be dealing with this type of situation, but I got pulled over on the exit road of GW parkway going 69/35 (no speed limit signs). Either way, I am getting a lawyer for the Reckless ticket and want to better protect myself.

I have never got a ticket for anything in Va or in Pa for the last 5 years. This is in Arlington county.

    Welcome to the forum Rydogg21.

As you know, VA is one of the worst states in the country for ridiculous driving laws. Especially the RD ban and their ridiculous ideas on what constitutes "reckless" driving.

You'll want a stealth detector such as the Bel STi, but I would recommend you consider the Escort Redline or 9500ci. These detectors are also stealth, more sensitive than the STi and the 9500ci is remote-mounted and includes GPS and laser shifters (jammers). Another option, if you can find one, is the Bel STi-R, which is also a remote-mount detector like the 9500ci, but it lacks the GPS and shifters. It's a lot cheaper as well, but it's discontinued so a bit harder to find.

As for jammers, as long as you slow down and shut them off when they go off they won't know. I'm sure 95% of LEOs don't even know what a laser jammer is or have ever encountered one.

As for where to buy Bel, Escort, and Blinder products, you can't do much better than this forum's sponsor, Radarbusters.

Welcome to the forum. I suggest a STi-R if you can still find one.

Welcome. Arlington County PD uses nothing but laser for speed enforcement. You may know that already, but if not now you do.

You will need a radar detector for other areas of Virginia, I recommend looking into the Escort Redline or Beltronics STi since they can't be detected by Spectre. Some people in Virginia are not too worried about Spectre and use a V1 too. It's all about the risk you are willing to take. It's only about $100 for getting caught with a detector but then you have the hassle of being stopped as well.

I found out Arlington's use of laser that hard way.

I have a mid sized sedan, do you all think the M27 will be effective? I planned to mount below the headlights but close to the front plate?

Also considering the use of Veil, how much difference will this make with a good jammer?

M27 will be fine if the heads are placed in good locations.

You won't need Veil. Veil can help the lower-end jammers perform better, but once you get into the M27 and LI class of jammers Veil is unneeded.

Post a pic of the front of your car in the "Advice on Placement" section on the forum and we can help you determine the best place to put the heads.
