Good evening. I'd like to thank you all for creating this forum.
Where to begin?
I just picked up a new hot little hatch. It loves to go fast. I love to go fast. I don't go fast in town. If the posted limit is below 55 I do my best to obey.
The bad news is that I drive the Taconic State Parkway every day. It is a twisty hilly nightmare for RDs. The good news is that I know where the smokies usually hang out and I can simply slow down when approaching a potentially troublesome locale. I would rather not have to do this.
I liked the Passport 8500 or even the Qi45. I local shop would install (wire up) an 8500 for me for $299. That figure seems reasonable. I am a little sad that I largely missed the closeouts of the STI-r.
Then I started researching. That brought me here.
It seems like Staties in NY use laser a lot. The good folks around here don't seem to feel that a laser detector is adequate, jammers are really needed. The honeycomb grill in my new little hatch does not like that idea. My wallet does not really like it either.
I want a stealthy install. I don't want suction cup marks on my windshield, I don't want wires in my field of view, I don't want a contraption hanging off of my rearview.
The Qi45 seemed perfect. Unfortunately there is quite a lot of bashing of it for reasons that I don't entirely understand other than Passport/Beltronics seems to be the Bose of the RD world. I don't care about GPS, where I am using a detector, there are no automatic doors.
Now I am thinking that I should drink the kool-aid and get a V1. That's just fine, but I have issues with things hanging in front of me. I'd like to pose a question in my rambling introduction. Given my requirements, which I hope I have outlined adequately, Passport qi45 or 8500 or... V1 sitting on a bean bag on the dash?
