Default Hello, Pro Driver & often Armed Rabbit

Just joined the forum, which I found accidentally while researching traffic enforcement cameras. I have driven professionally in one capacity or another for well over 25 yrs, and I have run with an STi Driver RD for the last 3 yrs. More saves than I care to try to count, more fun than you can immagine, and more safety packed into one little grey magnesium case than they can cram into any courtroom in the country!

My primary purpose for using countermeasures is to protect my license, as well as my driving record. Many companies I contract for now require that I have a clean driving record for 3 yrs. However, they also often require that I be at a pickup point on time but across state, and on short notice.

    I can do that ... !

Thanks. I primarily do pilot escort work now, but the economy being what it is I also will drive truck when local companies need help. The times I typically need countermeasures are when deadheading my pilot vehicle, an '07 Toyota Tacoma.

I have run everything from OTR & oversize, to concrete mix truck, to emergency vehicles.

Welcome. It's nice to see other semi truck drivers on here. I drive truck too and trust me, the rd ban for big trucks is plain stupid and unjust. Just make sure if the weigh station is open, to take down the rd as they have cameras inside those chicken coops. Also, if there is a "surprise" DOT inspection at a rest area, you better be quick to rip down that rd and stash it away. Otherwise, drive safe, use a CB radio for extra help on the road, and be safe.

I have to agree there! Unfortunately, interstate commerce is one of the few areas where the fed is acting legally (constitutionally) in regulating us. Just goes to show that legally does not equal fairly or sensibly.

In a truck, I never use my RD. Not generally worth the risks. If I am pushing the limmits, I'll keep the CB on, but that is usually more an exercise in tolerance than it is anything useful. Sad, but fewer drivers are willing to bother warning about speed traps any more. Awareness is the best defense in a truck.

Under load as a pilot, the RD almost always goes in my crosover tool box. If they find it in the cab of the pickup, they will assume it was used and many of them will ticket the driver. Some will try and ticket both pilot and driver and confiscate. The theory is that if the pilot had it, he was using it to warn the driver and it is illegal. It won't stand up in court, but is a hassle to fight it, and the trucking company won't be likely to use that pilot again.

But after I drop ... :^) Put it this way, I just spent over 36 hrs straight shuttling construction equipment and then piloted a load of rings across the state. Droped the load over 200 mi away at 8:30, fueled and ate, and I still got home last night in time to get a good nights sleep before starting the day today- another nice safety feature of my RD!
