Hi, Im about to buy my second RD and looking for more information. I have a cobra detector that I got from Target for about $100 and am about to buy the Escort 8500 X50 from a guy for $120. If anyone knows anything I should be looking for about this detector or if the price is unfair please inform me.

how exactly are you buying it from him? is it used and are you are buying it off of Ebay, also is it refurbished?

He goes to the same university I do and had it listed on craigslist. I called him and he said he is selling it because he bought a better one. From what I could tell it does not sound like it is refurbished but I have no hard details on that. I will ask him before I buy it.


EDIT: Another question I had was that I have a decal across the top of my windshield that says my university name. I put my RD up behind it will it still be able to get good distance?

place it by your review mirror for best range, I would ask him if you could test it or at least go for a ride with him while he uses it to make sure it works. I always worry about people buying used detectors.

Welcome and you want to be careful when you are buying a RD used. If there is nothing wrong with it, the X50 is a good RD.

Welcome to the forum. No offense to your friend, but the X50 he is selling may be busted. If you are on a strict budget, I would pass his offer and get a refurb Escort 8500 for $150.
