Default Worth Buying A New Detector

Hello, I'm new to the forum obviously. I currently own an old school Bel Vector 940 with the latest and greatest digital broadband technology. I'm not sure what platform it uses but it works really well. I wanted to buy a new detector so I went to the GOL website to get an idea of the performance of the new detectors and I'm a bit confused I guess. I looked at their results and the video of them doing around the curve with the V1 and my old school Bel would stomp all of them somehow. I've had it alert to K and Ka band up and over hills and around corners up to and over a quarter mile. Do I just have a special 940 or something or has the technology not really improved? Is it even worth buying a new detector then? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks.

Welcome, and your old school 940 may still be fine.

As for the testing you saw, it was with a very weak radar signal so the tests wouldn't need a track 11+ miles long.
My guess is your 940 is not quite as sensitive as some of the top performers, but not that far off ether.

That would make sense that they turned down the intensity of the radar unit though it never mentioned that. Thanks for the quick and respected response. appreciate it.

They actually used a radar absorbing foam to decrease the radar guns range, because in actuality guns can not be set to a lower output.

Welcome. I used to have the v940 but mine malfunctioned and rather than take the 80 Beltronics was going to give me I decided to pick up the V1. I really like this detector for its range, arrows, and bogey counter. Its a solid detector but I am thinking about giving the Redline a try. The v940 served me well and I was impressed with its range. It was a huge improvement over my first detector (cobra) but the V1 was an improvement over the v940.

Awesome, I appreciate your input greatly. Glad to hear from someone who had the same one as me and can compare it to something new. I think I'm probably going to buy a new one. By the way, was it the speaker that blew, but I replaced it with a tape recorded speakers. Thanks!

No I think it received to high of a volt because the display went crazy and all the settings got stuck on weird settings and wouldn't revert back. I never had an issue with the speakers.
