Default New-- And SICK of *&% Speeding Tickets!!

Hello all! I have been prowling around unregistered for a few weeks reading and trying to learn more about RDs. I wanted to get the very best I could (without going the custom installation route), and after reading around here, I think I'm gonna go with the Redline. I saw the post about the sale and wanted to get the promotional code (*cough hint cough*) so I could jump on that sucker! I've lived several different places and may end up needing a stealth RD, which is what ruled the V1 out for me. I've really appreciated all the open, candid discussion about this stuff around here, and I've learned a LOT more than I had initially anticipated. If anybody has a wildly compelling reason to get something other than the Redline, lemme know! I'm still new enough to be open-minded . If not, then anybody with an itchy PM finger would be greatly appreciated for shooting that discount code my way

    Thanks to all!!! Great forum!!

The sale is over, but there are still discounts available for forum members. Someone should hook you up soon.

That said, the Redline is a pretty lackluster, featureless detector for the money. It has marginally better raw sensitivity over the others, but is otherwise much slower to respond (eating up that sensitivity gain) and devoid of features. There are probably very few people outside of Virginia or Canadia for whom the Redline is ideal. And for the money they charge for that thing, it had better be ideal!

If you need a stealth radar, you dont have much options. windshield mount option would be redline and Sti. Custom install would be 9500CI and STi-R. I understand you dont want a custom mounted radar so nothing wrong with the redline in your case. In a banned area, I would pick the STi-R as they can be found <$700. 9500CI only if you live in a major city with lots of K-band false. I favor custom mount radar soley for complete stealth.

I would reconsider the v1. I know you are looking for something stealth, but the v1 performs, plain and simple. Check out the GOL radar testing.

...good timing! . I'm currently living in NC, I have a LOT of tickets through the years (but NEVER an accident other than being hit while not moving... speeding tickets are a great use of government resources ), and I'm just utterly over throwing my money away on some guy's ticket quota for the month. If the V1 is the better option, so be it. I don't have an idealogical dog in the race, really-- I just want to avoid getting more tickets. I like the idea of the arrows a lot, but don't see them as being a must-have type of option. I've read a bit about V1s being a bit less reliable and more prone to false positives-- should I be concerned?

Btw, my future moves (for the next few years, anyway) will almost certainly be within North Carolina, South Carolina, and/or Tennessee, if that is of any help...

Thanks for the thoughts and kind wishes so far!!

it's good that you have done research....this will only benefit to your final decision in an rd. I would let the testing results speak for themselves. As far as I know, and the research I have done, the escorts aren't as reliable as the v1's. I use an escort and it needed service after 2 and a half years. Also the v1 has the best laser sensing ability. I'm sure you know by now that once you get hit by laser, it's too late, but the v1 has a greater ability to pick up laser scatter. This meaning if an leo is shooting laser at cars infront of you, the v1 has the best ability of picking it up off other cars so you know there is laser upcoming. The false positives I wouldn't worry about. Now with the arrows, that seems pretty sweet to me!

Once you have the used the V1 w/the arrows you will wonder how you got by without them. The Redline is a beast, but is just a shade below the V1 when it comes down between the two IMO.

It doesn't sound like you're going to be anywhere that "stealth" is a factor. Perhaps stealth means something different to you, but to us, it is a detector that cannot be detected by police radar detector-detectors. And that's only a factor in Virginia, unless you are a trucker. Otherwise, it's definitely not worth giving up more useful features for, much less paying for.

So-called "false alerts" are no worse with the V1 than with the Redline. Anytime you increase sensitivity, you increase false alerts. That's because false alerts are actual radar sources, like automatic door openers, not just weird apparitions out of nowhere. If you increase your ability to detect radar, you increase the reception of ALL radar, not just police radar. Consequently, it's a factor with all top performing detectors.

Likewise, if you decrease false alerts, you also decrease your reception of police radar. Currently, there is no way to separate the two without compromise. If you drive mostly in urban areas, where there is a drug store or bank on every corner broadcasting false alerts, and you can't handle it, then the 9500ix offers methods of silencing them. It does so quite well. However, it only does so over time. It won't ignore that signal until either you lock it out yourself, or you have passed it on three different trips. Consequently, it's really useful only for your normal route, not other areas.

The Escorts also have a very slow reaction time to signals, meaning they take upwards of a few seconds sometimes to finally give you warning of a signal it has received. This results in entirely missed alerts on some Instant On shots. That's a huge risk to take in many states.

So the Redline has all the false alerts of a V1, slower reaction time than the V1, no arrows (which you can only appreciate the value of once you have used them. Trust me, they make a huge difference in your situational awareness.), and only marginally better range than the V1, yet costs almost 50 percent more than a V1. Unless you absolutely must have stealth, there is no reason to even consider a Redline. Depending on your driving and sensitivities, the 9500ix and the V1 are really the only serious choices.
