Thread: Three questions

    Default Three questions

The Welcome page encourages that I post a message, so here goes: what is the best radar detector for the money? Assume $100-150 is the amount of money. What does it take to install one? Does the windshield mount just advertise the detector to the police, and have them pull you over out of spite? I apologize in advance that I have asked the typical noobie questions, but I registered here to find the answers.

Just be aware that $150 dollars or less barely puts you in the category of "also ran" detectors. Certainly nowhere near the best for any money.

Yes, putting it on your windshield advertises it to the police, which almost defeats the purpose of the detector, since it pretty much defeats any chance of the cop giving you a warning. It also exposes it to too much sunlight, which bakes the electronics, and exposes it to every thief with a window punch. That's why smart people put it on the visor, hidden behind the tint strip. Unfortunately, that still leaves the display glowing brightly to every cop behind you. Higher cost detectors have remote displays that move the lights down and out of sight from a vehicle behind you, but not one under $150.

And even the best detector will do nothing for you if you're hit by laser. For that, you must have a jammer. Period.

    Good luck!

^Agree you will be hard pressed to find a decent RD in the $100-$150 price range IMO.
