Thread: Olleh all

    Default Olleh all

    Hello everyone. As you are well aware I am new here. This is a fantastic forum full of very useful information and knowledgeable people; it's great. I'm in the process of purchasing a RD and needed a little technical input/opinion if I may. I know after reading that the V1, 9500CI, and Redline, are amazing but I'm looking towards something a little more reasonable in price. This is slightly counter productive since the more you spend the better RD you will get. Anyways, I just want to get a sort of feel for how they operate before a spend a significant amount of money. Basically, I have grown a liking to the Whistler Pro-3450 Custom Install unit, but haven't seen a forum or test that suggests it's ability to detect radar. I like the idea that it is remotely installed rather than on the windshield. I'm just curious if anyone has some real world experience with this particular unit. How does it compare to other RD's such as the Pro-78se or the XTR-695, or even a low cost Bel Vector such as the 955? Is is the similar or worse? If worse I was looking at the Qi45 but at that price I should probably just get a V1 eh? I had RD's before and they do not irritate me, but there is one option that I would like. The ability to turn of X-Band since it is obsolete in my state (laser would be great to, though not as important.)
    Any help or insight would be awesome, keep up the good forum!

    Welcome! It would help if you give us a price range. $150 - $200 or $250 - $350. Maybe $400 and on up.

    Dollar for dollar the V1 cannot be beat. As long as you have a tolerance for a lot of falses and don't need stealth, the V1 is the way to go. The arrows are a major plus.

    Well, I was interested in the Whistler Pro-3450 Remote Install because I saw it for 159.99 on Amazon which is significantly cheaper than it's retail cost. I suppose my price maximum is $450 though I'd rather not spend that much, but can if need be.

    Terrain = Very Hilly/Curvy/Winding Roads

    Vegetation = Very Thick in Spring/Summer & Obviously not so much in Late Fall/Winter.

    I do absolutely no interstate driving and stick to country Route's and rural roads, so single lane only.

    I come in contact with Sheriff's and very very rarely State Troopers and City Cops.

    I currently own an old Bel Vector V960, which is about 6+ years old which is why I thought I might need a new detector. Around this area Instant On seems to be the way of the world and of all the radar encountered: Ka = 75%, K = 25%, X = 0%, Laser = 0%.

    I was just really intrigued by the Pro 3450 for it's remote install but if it isn't as good as my current old school Bel 960, I guess there would be no point.

    If my 960 is better and given my terrain, price range ($450), the fact that most LEO's use Ka as well as Instant-On, I do no interstate driving, what would be the best possible unit for me?

    As a side note/question since I'm new; what is with the recent excessive single bar Ka alerts?

    I'm just looking for the best possible radar detector for my needs, disregard what I think if you have better input, I was just stuck on the Pro 3450 for some reason, don't really know why other than it's low price/remote install. That's not really an issue though.

    From what you have told me, this isn't going to be cheap. ^^^^^ Worse case scenario. Not only do you need the best money can buy, you must be up to date on speeding techniques. Examples such as not being the fastest car on the road, noticing the speeds of cars coming out of turns, knowing peak enforcement times... I'd say V1($414) or Redline($500) for you. I had a whister two years ago. One of the reasons I returned it was the off axis sensitivity was non existent.

    Is there any Semi or truck traffic on your roads?

    Your Vector 960 is an S7 platform detector and performs much better than that Whistler remote you're considering.

    The best RD for that environment is the Escort Redline which is out of your price range (Escort Redline: $500). I have the 9500ci (remote version of the Escort Redline) and it beats my V1 against around-the-curve radar:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K80z_jDLii0]YouTube - Escort 9500ci and V1 3.813 vs. Around the Curve Ka 34.7[/ame]

    So, the next best RD in your price range is the Valentine One.

    I assume you are talking about this?

    That is a "sub form" of Instant-On (I/O) called Quick-Trigger (QT):

    Well, I guess I shouldn't be that hasty, I asked for some good help and most seem to point towards the Redline which can be had for 469.99, so an extra 20 isn't really out of the question. My only concern is after reading several posts on this forum and others the Redline seems to have a malfunction with Q/T or I/O, or did I read incorrectly? or maybe they fixed this issue. I definitely do not want to afford a 9500CI so that is out of the question. I'm not trying to be a jerk I just can't justify that enormous price tag. So you guys think the Redline then? over the V1? or is there anything else within that price range? Don't care about falses, GPS, or any "cool feature", just looking for better sensitivity/performance. As I said before I was just merely stuck on the Pro-3450 for no real reason other than the appeal of a remote install, which performance/sensitivity is way more important due to my driving conditions. Thank you guys already for the great help/input, will definitely fuel my decision.

    PS: What I'm refering to is my V960 will go 1 bar Ka for about 2-4 seconds then go away and never come back. It doesn't appear to be a I/O since I never encounter a cop when and if it does this 1 bar alert. Only does it for Ka. Don't know the Ka frequency sorry. I do notice that another vehicle is passing by if that helps?

    If you PM GreenRadar, he can send you a discount code for RadarBusters.com to get a RedLine for less than that.
