    Default Hello from Houston

Joined the forum recently as I have an old Escort Solo (no other identifiers except SafetyPilot on the Serial # sticker). This is a cordless model, but I have decided to direct connect to power and need help on the power jack polarity. This isn't the newer phone jack style, but the older 'single small male probe with other contact around the periphery'. Sorry, there's probably a specific name, but I don't know it. Most of the time the small point is + and the outside is -, but I don't want to connect it backwards. I have switched 12VDC close to the rear view mirror/dome light assembly so that piece is solved. I also have a multimeter with which to check the voltages. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, JimB

welcome to the forum fellow houstonian..
and i looked at the manual and i see it has a small jack for the smart cord (the one with all the twists and plugs into your cig lighter)
i think your overthinking it.. you can either get one of those smartcords escort sells (i hear they have them at radio shack). or you can get the hardline which i think is what your doing.. if thats the case fleabay or maybe even radio shack? for that hardline i would connect it still to your lighter socket.. GOOD LUCK

EDIT: what snoopy said.. plus you might want to look into LIDAR if you want to speed in houston

Welcome to the forum. What part of Houston are you from? I suggest you upgrade your radar detector. It's decent against K band but struggles against Ka 35.5 which is rampant in Houston:

Wow - the Solo. I have a friend who has been using that detector for eons, only because it is battery powered. I was just at his house the other day, and yep - there it was, still attached to his windshield.

Thanks for the advice; I have a shack close to the house. I'm not on the freeways much and do pick up the squad cars on the side streets. Thanks
