I'm and electrical engineer by trade. Race car driver by choice & all around tech-head by nature. I've been using RD's and Lidar jammers since 1997 and stumbled across this forum & Radar Roy in my quest to find all the necessary info for me to make an informed decision about my next RD purchase. Like several other users here, I'm torn between the Redline and V1. Ultimately I have decided to purchase & audition both and keep the one that best suits my needs.
So I've been stalking the forums and reading every thread I can to help clarify my needs & the products to fits them. Thx for all the info you guys share here. It's helping a lot.
A little background:
Back in 1996, I was one of the initial prototype builders & field testers for the Lidatek LE-10 Lidar jammers. Lidatek, LLC started as a subsidiary of Synrad, LLC. The companies founder, Peter Laakman, decided he wanted to attempt to manufacture a laser jammer after he was ticketed by a LEO using a Lidar gun. He was not mad really, jut fascinated by the technology. However, the very 1st prototype and all subsequent revisions were immediately installed on his Mercedes. Eccentric old guys with piles of money do some weird s**t just because they can.
So a group of us were pulled from the Synrad staff to develop, test & manufacture the LE-10. I actually setup the workshop, test fixtures and did the field testing as well as building protoypes and final products. After Lidatek was up and running the core group was rolled back into Synrad and Lidatek went about it's business. I left the company to move elsewhere. Since then Lidatek has changed hands or died. I don't really know. But they were nice enough to give me a box of Lidar jammers parts when I left. 5 control units & 15 laser heads which I have in safe storage and break out whenever I need to repair or retro fit my Mustang. I only install 1 at a time. 15 would be redonkulous.
It was around this time that I learned of Valentine One. It was also the time I was given my 1st RD. Some cheap-ass uniden or beltronics. I've been given a few hand-me-down RD over the last 15 years. The latest and current one is a Cobra ESD-7000. I new it was the bottom of the barrel, but free was free. Now that I have a job traveling 30K-40K miles a year as a Field Service Tech for a large IT company, I figured it would behoove me to get a Top-Tier RD. Which has lead me here.
-I read tech manuals & hardware specs for fun.
-I build and race a 1986 Ford Mustang in SCCA (it's also my daily driver).
-I build my own HD Digital TV antennaes, audio amplifiers, computers, etc etc etc
OK then. Guess that about sums up my introduction. See ya'll 'round the forums.
