I realize this is where it is customary to list vehicle and equipment and then to share my purpose for being here. The vehicle I drive is a 1-ton Dodge Dually with a 6 speed stick and chicken lights. Before you assume I am a wanna-be trucker, let me say that the truck came along with my fiancee who got it from her brother who once upon a time drove interstate hot-shot. But, point in fact, all-told I spent three years driving over the road as a dry-freight commodities relocator(yeah, a big-rig driver).
My "detection devices" are my own eyes and ears. in other words, I do not own electronics to detect or jam speed-detection devices. That is in no way a statement to deride what is going on here at this forum or it's associated sites. I merely wish to inform you that in truth, I am an outsider.
I warrant that I am in no way an LEO, prosecutor, or an advocate employed in any capacity to use what I find here to incriminate, insult, or injure and person or organization that enjoys their liberties of free speech here. Obviously, I wish to respect, and quite possibly even protect those rights.
I am here in order to shape a freelance writing project. Let me give you a little more background.
At one point I got hired to work in the Car Audio dept. of a major electronics retailer. I voraciously consumed any training material related to the products sold within. As you might guess, this also included radar and laser detectors. Since I am endowed with certain OCD traits, I became smarter than your average bear...ah, let's amend that to average consumer...about these devices. We are almost talking ancient history as this was in the mid-90s. Since I was on an hourly pay scale, meaning not sales commissions, I was able to deliver my knowledge with a nearly unbiased fervor. After detailing choices of products available, I was often asked which one I owned. To that I truthfully replied that I owned none of them and the "why not?" is answered with the phrase, "like guns, they make you braver than you ought to be." Understand that I was speaking based on my own personality and was decided that my best defense against tickets was just to behave on the roads.
This did not mean I was willing to kill a sale for some moral standpoint. In fact, I quizzed users for their opinions in order to increase my knowledge base.
So, users willing, I would like to pester the good folks of this community about their views about the "arms race" between motoring enthusiasts and LEOs, including the companies positioned on both sides.
I want more about the mindsets rather than the technology. In other words, why do what you do? Again, this is not to incriminate, rather to explore motivations as well as thoughts about being a responsible citizen whilst enjoying a turbo-charged Civic.
BTW, I was absolutely in love with my '80 Z
