    Smile Hey fellow driving enthusiasts!

I have been wanting a radar detector for a long time now and it's finally time to purchase. I started reading this forum a few days ago wanting to learn about the different detectors and technologies being used. I have come down to four different detectors and I was wondering if some people could chime in because even after all of my reading I'm still not 100% sure! The detectors are:
    Escort 9500ix
    Beltronics STI
    Bel RX65
    Escort 8500 X50

I live in Connecticut where I understand the most widely used radar used is K and Ka also laser. I mainly travel I-95 in curvy and hilly areas. It would be a nice bonus if I could find a detector that can't be detected by RDDs too! Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated!!

You're not interested in a V1? CT is known to be DEADLY with Instant On radar and the V1 is the best at detecting it early.

Yeah, if you want a good radar detector.. I'd seriously consider getting a Valentine 1 if I were you. I used to be a die-hard Escort/Bel fan until I tried the V1. I still love Escort and their Redline, but I have come to like my V1 more than anything. Try it out.

V1, Redline or 9500ix would be the only detectors (windshield mount) that I would consider.

If I did not mind it being a little chatty and never went to VA, DC or Canada then it's the V1. If I went to any of those 3 places occasionally then the Redline. If I did not want anything but quiet then the 9500ix.

You owe it to yourself to give a V-1 a test-drive

The 30-day trial is a great opportunity.

So many responses! Thanks for your input guys. I had originally wanted a V1 but reading this forum kinda turned me off. I read a post by one V1 owner saying that the V1 did not detect very well around corners or over hills (In the V1 section thread titled "Difficulties you faced when making the switch" compu44s post, not to single people out I've read others elsewhere.) The V1 is detectable by RDDs as well correct?

Why would you care? Only place where they use RDDs is in VA.

I guess I don't care if no one else besides VA uses RDDs but the problem remains - owners of V1s have claimed that the V1 does not work very well over hills and through turns. That concerns me because the part of I-95 that I drive has some notorious spots over hills and around turns where I see cops every couple of days. Perhaps these V1s were faulty?
