    Default New Guy From NC

I been reading this board for about 2 weeks trying to get the most info on what RD I need to get. I live in Raleigh and do lots of traveling to Greensboro, and RTP which is in the 40/85 corridor. Lots of NC State police traps out there and some speed sensors for traffic flow. I think the state police use lots Ka of which I believe is 35.5ka band radars Ka and in Raleigh there is a lot of K band. I want to know what you think the best RD would be for this area. Maybe three times a year I travel north to PA which takes me through Va/Dc (stealth not a deal breaker) and I go to Atlanta and Florida about 4 times a year. Thanks in advance...

I know your pain being from North Cackylacky myself w/all the enforcement tactics the LEO's like to use. I always highly recommend the Valentine 1 for most areas and even use it inside the city but the V1 will drive most people crazy inside the city since it's such a "chatty" RD. It's hard to deactivate any RADAR bands (X,K,KA) since all 3 bands are still used in NC to my knowledge. So if you use the V1 in the city and don't like allot of noise then your gona have to Auto mute the heck out of it. Check out this link on our site for more info on RADAR locations by state http://www.patzcatz.com/radarbands.html#N http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...5-18-10-a.html
You also mentioned traveling thru VA some (granted you said stealth not a issue), but you should give some thought to the Escort Redline since it's non detectable to about 18" from what I've read. I use the Redline myself and it's just a hair quieter than my V1 but is not as "quick on the draw" in RADAR detection as my V1 is. Just recommending the REdline for those banned areas so you can avoid a potential headache from the VA LEO's. Granted these RD's are a little on the expensive side compared to some of the lower brands but you do get what you pay for.
IF you really hate a noisy RD than the there are other quieter RD's out there like the 9500 IX/CI and others that you can read up on for more info.
Also give some thought about a LASER jam device and also a CB is very useful for those long interstate road trips IMO. As I'm sure your already aware NC use's more tactics than RADAR and/or LASER.

Welcome to the forum. If you already have a gps unit I'd look up trapster and download potential cameras and traps in the area. Let it warn you for cameras and such. The V1 will give you better instant on warnings vs the Redline and that is used quite a bit on our roads. How much are you willing to spend? What are your driving habits? 10+,15+ Realize that vascar and laser are also in NCHP's arsenal. Lastly realize nothing makes you bullet proof they just improve your odds by adding awareness. Laser jammers should also be investigated on this forum for what works and how to use them effectively. So happy reading and again welcome to the forum.
