Greetings all! New owner of my first radar detector. How sweet it is!
Drove from Houston to Dallas on a business trip in my Mustang Bullitt. No speeding. Locked in cruise control 1 mph below the speed limit and monitored the speed on my heads-up GPS. Picked up all kinds of bogeys. All real. They like to zap this car even when I'm in the middle of slow traffic. Is this just for their fun and/or training? I guess they like to pick on Mustangs. Bogeys in the usual places over the crest of hills and around bends, a few hiding around the corners and backsides of structures on the side of the road. Got a K band screamer just coming out of Corsicana northbound. Beat up van off to the side of the road. No markings and it looked like an abandoned vehicle. Alarm went silent as soon as I passed the van. Rear windows of the van were tinted dark. Must have been Shaggy and Scooby-Doo in there working the radar gun as spotters and then radioing the hit to the DPS (Highway Patrol) cars. Got lots of alerts and then saw others get pulled aside and ticketed. What an eye-opener all this was for me!
After I get a little smarter/experienced, I will ratchet the speed up a little when safe to do so.
I hope to learn a lot here, and can tell that a detector is only one component of good strategy & tactics.
