    Cool Hey from Louisiana...

New to posting on this forum. Been lurking for the past few weeks and finally decided it was time to start participating. Joined the forum because I'm currently looking for a good set-up for my new 11' Mustang. Can't decide if I want to go with the Bel STi-R+ now and deal with the hassles of getting it installed or wait until Belscort releases a windshield mounted M3 with the same software as the STi-R+. Because when they do, that thing should be beastly mounted high up.

If money is no object, Would go w/the STI-R for now, I highly doubt any RD maker is going to make one any time soon for a windshield mounted RD w/those great options the STI-R offers.

Welcome to our most excellent site.

    Welcome to the forum!

There is a windshield M3 (escort redline) but it lacks some of the features of the plus such as gps, band segmentation, RDR, and the hassle to install.

It is possible to do an interior install with one if you want. Several of the members have done that different ways. One way is routing the cable up through the headliner and attaching it with a camera mount or clip.

For me, the issue isn't as much the installation is the lack of portability. I transfer my RD's among different cars mutiple times a week.

The Plus is a badass detector though.

If money is not an issue and you want it concealed, get the STi R Plus. You may want a long time for something better. If you are going to wait and want a windshield unit, we would need more information to make a good recommendation. V1 and Redline are top window mount performers but the 9500ix is great for around the city when you have alot of false alerts. Read up and provide more info if you need help.

Money isn't so much an issue right now as I have a little extra money to burn through if I wish. Although, spending upwards of $2K for radar protection can seem excessive when I could get a windshield mounted unit like the V1 or Redline and hard-wire it myself for under $500. But, I'd be giving up some great features if I'd go with the V1 or Redline. V1 is an S7 and is somewhat less sensitive, especially off-axis. It may have band segmentation (I think), but it lacks frequency display. While the Redline may be an M3, it lacks band-seg and RDR, making it less reliable against I/O and Q/T. Both also don't have GPS. With all that said, the only thing really holding me back is the installation of the STi-R+, as I don't have the expertise and the time to install it myself. Also don't know where I could get someone or someplace to do it for me that actually knows what they're doing. Would also like to send my display off to radar-mirror and get the display concealed in the rear-view mirror, but I'd be willing to forgo that because that would be even more trouble being that I'd have to remove the mirror myself and mail it to them.

As far as my need for countermeasures in my area...terrain hear is as flat as a pancake, but many roads here may be curvy in some areas. Don't really travel much in the city and usually don't speed more than +5-10 over PSL when I do. Most of my speeding adventures are on open interstates where the PSL is mostly 70 (although, raised to 75 last month on I-49 up to Shreveport) and rural 2-lane highways where the PSL is unfortunately 55. Been owned more than once over the years for doing between 70-75. Don't know what bands are used in my area by locals, but do know that LSP use Ka band exclusively. Also, never seen any locals or state police shooting laser in my area.

Houston here, but spend a lot of time in Acadiana and NOLA. I'm using the 9500ix. New purchase and I am really liking it. Thinking about CB and scanners now too.

Since money is not an issue, STi R Plus.

If, after you add all of this up you find it is too much you may want the V1. The v1 gives up to the Redline in sensitivity but it's sensitivity is very good and it is very responsive and gives you more situational awareness. On flat roads you should be able to pick up radar from further distance and without much city driving you don't have to worry as much about false alerts. The V1 also has a pretty good concealed display.
