Thread: hey guys

    Default hey guys

Hey guys, I'm new here. I drive a silver BMW 330ci with..... no countermeasures!

It's been largely unnecessary for me as of yet, since I know all the dangerous spots on my daily highway commute. However, I'm going off to college next year, and with that comes a whole host of new roads to worry about!

Basically, at this point, I think highway/rural detection is more important to me than city detection, which has led me thus far towards the V1. However, I have a real problem with the apparent stagnancy of Valentine in keeping up to date with the newest tech. I really do think that false alerts are going to be seriously bothersome to me.

And I do know that you can do some things to mitigate the V1's noisiness. But I'm looking very enviously at the 9500ix about now.

So basically, I'm trying to hold off as long as possible until:
    1. Valentine releases a V2, with all the modern tech I'd love to see
    2. Since Valentine's patents have, to my knowledge, expired, Escort gets its ass in gear and gives me my damn arrows!

    There will be no V2.
For highway/rural use the V1 is an awesome detector.
Combine that with a Savvy and you can keep in town K band falses down.

There really isn't a need for Escort to copy arrows. I have said before I'm surprised no one makes a directional indicator based on the clock signal, a circle cut into 12 pieces, It wouldn't be that hard to engineer. Hell, old military RADAR equipment from the 50's could do it.

As for your choice in counter-measures, I hear nothing but great things about the 9500ix. I have a Beltronics STi Magnum. It doesn't have the GPS lockout capability of the 9500ix, but in AutoScan mode, I really don't get that many false alerts. Then again, since I already know what local law enforcement use anyway (dedicated Ka band with some laser), I simply turn off K and I'm false alert free.

The Escort Redline is another great detector. Of course, if you really have the fuzz, I would recommend the Beltronics STi-R Plus. Remote mounted, excellent range and rampup, and cannot be picked up by the the SPECTRE RDD. There are several videos on this forum that show how good it is, sometimes even surpassing the V1 on I/O shots, which is a statement in and of itself.

    Hope this helps boss.

Yeah the clock system would be awesome. I'm not picky about the usage of arrows, per say, I just wish I had a way of knowing what direction the threat is in.

And yeah, my brother has a 9500ix, and it seems to work well for him. As for messing with bands... unfortunately in Ohio you really have no way of knowing what police are going to use. Laser, Ka, K, even X is pretty common!

Savvy seems like a pretty good solution in that I'm not bothered if I'm driving the speed limit, but it still doesn't seem quite right because frankly, I can still get easily pulled over for going 45-50 in a 35, yet that's not an abnormal cruising speed at least on a lot of the 35s around here.

The Redline is a pretty cool detector, but I don't like it's lack of ramp up or it's lack of GPS autofalsing -- which is what I see as the main advantage of going Escort over Valentine.

Believe me, if I had the dough I'd love to get an installed solution like the sti-r or the 9500ci. But I have far too many other things I'd like to spend my money on. I think even if I was willing to set that kind of cash down for countermeasures, I'd split it between a portable detector and LIs, since laser is so common in Ohio.

I really do appreciate the input Terragon.

If false-lockout is really your thing, the 9500ix is a winner, but it can have brutal rampup. Another good GPS based RD is the Beltronics GX65.

No problem guy, we are all here to help each other out.

Welcome and glad to see your doing your home work. Maybe in the future the Belscorts will make something you like. I've used the Valentine for 19 years and would have nothing else. Eveybody likes different things in a RD and I hope you find your liking......

Your in Ohio and if you ever go on the highway you'll encounter the solar powered speed sensor drones that V1's TSR was designed for. It is the filtering in the business, period, as it's super fast compared to Belscort's TSR.

Hmm that's news to me. What exactly should I be expecting in terms of differences between the company's tsr?

Also, I'm looking more into the redline now. I understand that escort live allows you to lock signals out manually. It doesn't allow for autofalsing though correct? And does it come with a preloaded database of known falses/allow you to use false lists generated by other users? I'm not really concerned with the live alerts because I just don't see it having a large enough user base to be useful to me.

However escort live isn't something I would be likely to hook up on short trips. But I do know that the redline does still have some digital signal processing, and is supposedly going to be gaining bs and rdr in the future. Can anyone give me an idea of how noisy it really is? Also would this supposed expert package coming out for it cost money?

I will admit another selling point to me is that the valentine 1 does start at $400 while the 9500ix starts at $500 and redline (+live) starts at $550.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Oh and one other thing. I just want to check that I'm correct in getting a radar detector first right? Would it be silly to choose just a laser jammer without getting a detector first? ( I'll probably end up eventually with both, but the secOnd device will be a later addition)

And is te redline's ramp up really that bad?

    Your learning. Keep reading.

Youtube has a V1 TSR video where it responses in tenths of a second to K-band where Belscort is around 2 second delay. The later sometimes missing instant-on all together.
