I'm Adam, a new VW Golf R owner from Maine who is currently living in Philadelphia and working towards my doctorate of veterinary medicine at UPenn. I found out about this forum after doing my best to research the best options for speed enforcement detection for my new car!
While I want the easy answer to "what is the best for me" I know that you all will roll your eyes at that question. So, now that I've researched, I hope to at least get some opinions on what I plan to do for a radar/LIDAR warning system and change accordingly if anyone completely disagrees with me.
My goals are to have system that is quite sensitive, but also relatively undetectable to the eye. I am also looking for LIDAR jamming capabilities. I'm not a fan of the look of windshield mounted detectors, and the Golf I am driving does not have the largest windshield...
My initial plan was to go with the Escort 9500ci, but after some research I have changed my plan to a Bel STI-R with dual mounted Laser Interceptor jammers on the front of the car. I really do not feel that the quad LI system is necessary, as it seems that laser cannot be used while moving (according to this forum) and I feel that the only time I would be hit from behind would be by a moving vehicle, which would apparently be using radar only. I also don't believe I would need the LI high power versions, as those seem to be geared towards larger vehicles.
Car info: 2012 Rising Blue (metallic) 4-door Golf R with no front license plate.
Any ideas or interpretations from current owners of these products or from anyone interested in offering their opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if this is too much for the INTRO post but I wouldn't know what technical area all this should be posted in anyways!
