    Default New member in Virginia

Hi all and glad I found this forum. I am a new RD user and being that I live in the only state in the union that outlaws them I am the only person I know that runs one. I got it mostly for use out of state as I travel for work nationwide and hate the feeling of being unfamiliar with my surroundings while driving and falling prey to a speedtrap or known hiding spots. I went with a pretty inexpensive Cobra XRS 9570, I know it is not the greatest and going cheap will probably cost me at some point but considering I will not be running it full time and since it was my first venture into the RD game I figured I can always upgrade down the road.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself here.

Welcome I'm actually from Lynchburg. Just making sure you know that the bel sti is the only rd that's undetectable from rdd if you want to use a rd in va that's your only choice. Also the best cheap rd is a used escort x50 or bel rx65 from eBay for 150 anything less then that is fail

I am aware that mine is detectable. Also, Escort Redline is undetectable, no? Anyway I would take the ticket for the illegal use of RD in VA over the fines for a speeding ticket considering it doesn't take much to be reckless in Virginia and the fines are outrageous. With that said I'm already looking to upgrade in the future but for the time being my cig lighter in my car doesn't work so I can't use it anyway

Welcome to the forum and since you live in that state I would look at hardwire it up high on the left side of your rvm. The Redline is prefect for where you at but if you don't have the fund to get one maybe later.

I have already picked up a new STi Driver, or at least advertised as new but more than likely a refurb which is fine with me. I will be upgrading to the Magnum firmware if it hasn't already had the upgrade. It didn't take long to ditch the Cobra, not that it didn't work but that I know it is just not dependable enough, lots of false alarms and the fact I would like something I know is undetectable. I wish I hadn't listened to the advice of a friend who said his Cobra worked like a charm and done my homework beforehand, but hey you live and you learn right?

I may hardwire it down the road but for now since I travel so much for work I will just plug and go.

Got my STi Driver in the mail today. Took it for a test run from Williamsburg to Richmond along I-64 and amazingly didn't pass a single cop, silent the whole way. Either way I am very excited to go on trips with it and see how well it preforms.

Glad you ditched the Cobra. I have tested a Cobra against a Spectre 2 RDD and it was detectable over 3000 ft which is very bad/dead give away to a cop! The Escort X50 is detected at 1800-2000 ft. Your only options in VA would be a high end Whistler model at around 50-75ft detectable or the Bel STi,Escort Redline, or one of the high end BelEscort remote models that are undetectable. I have driven through VA w/ my Bel STi and never had any problems. It's nice to own a Spectre RDD to test out different detectors. Good luck to you!
