Apparently after trying to post a question for 2 days, I must post in here first.
Alright, so even after that first post I still cant post in other sections, I give up so Im asking my question here.
I use an 8500X50 detector and its been great, saved my butt a few times.
Last night I was driving home from work on the ICC in Maryland. I had a car passing me in the left lane probably going 20 over the speed limit. We went around a turn and there was a LEO on the side of the road shooting a gun at us. Not a beep from my detector. We made our way around the turn and here comes the LEO behind us.
Luckily he went behind the driver who was passing me, turned on his lights, and pulled him over.
Im concerned because my 8500 X50 didnt make a churp, so are LEO's in Maryland using something that the 8500 X50 doesnt pick up? Any ideas?
When I drive on the ICC and LEO's are driving alongside, I pick up their Ka bands all the time with sufficient warning time to slow down. And when I drive up and down 95 the Laser warning gives me sufficient time for the Jeeps parked on the side of the road with their laser picture setup.
Thanks in advance for the help and Im sorry I posted this in the intro forum. Ive tried to post for 2 days in the local forum so I gave up.
After you post here you gotta wait a bit for your privliges to update. But on your question, the leo was pointing a hand gun at the guy passing you?
It was not a hand gun that shoots bullets pointed at us, but a radar or laser type gun. I was directly next to the guy who he was pointing it at, and since he came after the guy immediately, Im pretty sure he got a reading that he was speeding.
Just befuddled as to why my 8500 X50 did not go off.
Welcome to the forum. Try reading all the rules before posting, it will solve some of your problems.
Welcome! Sounds like the Leo got the guy next to with laser. Go to "guys of lidar" on the web and read your heart out. There should be photos of most of the laser guns. The lidar beam is to small most of the times to detect. If it was radar, the unit would be smaller in size. If a Leo Q/Ts you (a split second), or a 1/2 second I/O, your RD will mostly will not pick it up because the radar is too fast and a 1/2 second I/O is difficult for most RDs.
Howdy,
Ive been to the GOL website a bunch and read through all their test data before choosing the 8500 x50.
I guess the LEO who shot him was pretty quick with the laser gun as I didnt pick it up. Typically, I pick up laser and Ka band on that road on a daily basis.
I was just nervous they were using something different that my 8500 X50 isnt able to pick up.
I guess I need to start looking into laser jammers.
Many new cars with adaptive cruise will set off laser.
