I live in Central Illinois. I am awaiting arrival of my Escort 9500ix, expected tomorrow. I also received my first order of Veil today, but must now wait for a stretch of non-rainy days to apply it.
I am not a maniac behind the wheel, but I am a spirited driver, and I drive a high number of miles for work. Even though I am not a ticket magnet, I seem to get ticketed every year or two, and I finally decided that the cost of a really nice radar detector is clearly less expensive than a ticket, plus attorney, plus court costs to keep it off my record to keep insurance rates in check. I drive a BMW 3 series--quickly. :-)
Interestingly, I have never been pulled over from being tagged via lidar, even though state police here use lidar (in addition to radar). Every time I have been pulled over has been from radar. In my area of the country, there are not many hiding spots for police cruisers on the interstates, so being attentive and alert is usually enough to avoid most fixed position speed traps. Most of my tickets and warnings have been from radar in a moving cruiser headed in the opposite direction. So while I know radar detectors are not infallible, my experience strongly suggests that a quality radar detector would have saved me from every ticket I have ever received.
