Default CR90 Frustrating Results in Illinois

Hi guys I am from west suburban Chicago Illinois and drive about 400 mikes a week between the 4 colleges I teach at. This is 85% Interstate driving on the Illinois Tollways.
I am 1 week into a Whistler CR90 trial and am about ready to return it because of my frustration. I get between 15 and 20 false alarms in traffic going from school to school.

The Pros - I like the units profile and set up, and the ease of use of the menus. The GPS feature is nice and updated easily for me. The price/feature ratio is unbeatable.

The Cons- CONSTANT K band false alerts 10-12 in a 40 minute leg of driving. Frequent, but short, Pukse, X, and laser alerts out of nowhere. GPS won't filter out and save bad alerts. Laser alerts at IPASS booths.

Okay, so for those that can help, here is my thought. If this is normal with today's traffic and highway monitoring systems and cars with proximity radars.. perhaps this won't work for me. But I have unsuccessful tried to tune the unit to the point of crippling it's sensitivity . This is what I have set so far.

Ka Band Max ID (biggest threat here I think)
K band Filter 3 (still triggers false alerts)
Traffic Flow Signal Deturant On ( still K alerts to cars)
X band Filter 3 ( helps but still getting X band false alerts)
Laser factory ( I don't know what to filter here)

I have tried different filters but short of disabling k and X bands what else can I do? I have had over 100 alerts and seen no cops. My old Bell false alerted now and again but it's been 5 or 6 years since I have owned a dector.Has the environment changed that much? Do I have a bad unit? At this point I am ready to throw it out of the window.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Doc

Sounds like you are being plagued by the a lot of K-band vehicle collision avoidance systems. These suckers can't be locked out because they are not stationery. All detectors today are facing the same horrible situation. Fortunately all of the current detectors that are worth their salt have some means of filtering out these K-band sources to one degree or another.

Whistler was actually on of the first companies to actually developing solutions to filter these things out. In a review I penned some time ago, I discuss the capability and how it can be programmed to do so. I would suggest you turn these features on and then see how things go.

Laser alerts at toll areas are no uncommon with detectors that have better laser sensitivity. If you turn on LaserID, the detector is unique in displaying detected pulse-rates. If the toll systems consistently set off a particular pulse-rate, then you can lock them out from alerting. This feature is only available on Whistlers and can come in handy.
