    Hello everyone,
I just started using a radar detector again after about 20 years. I bought the escort solo S4 because I like the fact that there are no wires showing. I know that I m probably giving up some range with the limited power supply, but I was hoping that you could give me some ideas about the best program to use to get the best protection. Thank you

Welcome to the forum. Yes, without a doubt you're giving up performance for battery performance and unfortunately even though the S4 can be plugged, its performance doesn't increase when its connected to a 12v line. Beyond range, it's going to be slower to react to I/O (instant-on) police radar than a conventional detector, but you knew this going in. It is a matter of convenience and I get that.

Depending where you drive, you probably won't need X-band turned on and given its reduced range in general, I'd tend to leave it in highway mode. If you are in NJ or Ohio or NC, then leave X-band on because it is still used in those states.
