Default Is my LI broken? Very strange problem...

Well I bought my LI back in late august or september of last year, right before the school year (I have a 15 hour drive to and from school through the worst states for enforcement - CT, NY, PA, Ohio). It worked incredibly on the drive here and saved me multiple times.

Now that I am getting to ready to make the drive home for the summer (I leave on tuesday in two days), of course my LI starts acting strange. About half of the time when I start the car, I get the infamous "connection to sensor two bad or poor" error. About another quarter of the time, the parking sensor just continually beeps for about 30 seconds and then goes silent, almost as if it thinks there is something in front of it. The rest of the time it works normally.

Now naturally I assume this is water damage, as I believe that my LI was purchased before the corrected versions were shipped out. However, here is the weird part - the LI as far as I can tell still can detect things. I tested both heads out with a remote control and they were set off no problem. Also, it still detects the sun and gives me sun warnings when I am driving directly into it.

However, I have no way to verify whether or not they are capable of jamming or even emitting laser or IR light.

    I have two questions:

    1. Am I protected for the trip home? I am driving through Ohio and they just are infamous for their laser traps. Do you think since it can still detect IR light that it can jam it? Is there any way to verify this - maybe with a video camera on night mode?

    2. How do I go about getting a replacement for my faulty unit?

    Thanks in advance!

If you have a Night Shot capable camera, or equivalent, you should see the heads firing back when you hit it with a remote (if a remote is indeed setting it off.) Also, most digital cameras are able to see a bit of the IR spectrum, so you could try that instead. If it fires back, it should show up as a light purple/pink dot on the screen.

As far as replacement, contact forum member C55, if he doesn't contact you first. He's the LI US (or is it NA) distributor.

    That would be seriously outstanding.

I just got home from Ohio today, managed to get home relying just on the V1. I passsed several bears lasering but nothing went off, so I don't think they were targeting me.

I spoke to cliff and will be sending my heads off for replacement within the next couple of days. I might try re-crimping first to see if that fixes the problem.

I will keep you guys updated.

edit: just tried with a camera in night shot mode - the results are scary. The camera can easily see the light being emitted from the remote control I use to trigger the LI, and the LI detects the light fine and goes off, BUT the heads do NOT emit any light to jam. I can't believe I just drove through the most dangerous area of the country for laser traps with no protection...talk about lucky!

Don't forget the aroma of "Herbal essence" lingering through the air. Make sure you don't get any residue on the replacement LI heads. You don't want the Feds watching you or Computerpro.
