Question Audible alerts on LI vs V1

I've got some questions about the audio alerts provided by the LI.

FYI, I've got a Valentine 1 hardwired in my e60 M5 and will be receiving my LI soon. I plan to install the LI control box behind the glove box above the passenger foot well. If I add a remote speaker to it so I can hear the audible alerts, I want to use some kind of small piezo sized speaker that I can put in the overhead console (where there is a small unused switch plate with a grill on it... anyone familiar with BMW's will know what I mean). I will also put a switch and LED for the LI in the same place.

    Questions...
    - Given I have a V1, I assume it will provide plenty of audible warning of laser... so once I hear the V1 go off, I can slow down, and turn off the LI... is this true... and if so, I guess I don't really need to hear the audible alerts from the LI and therefore bother with a remote speaker? Any pros/cons for this idea?
    - If I can't rely on the V1 and should install a small piezo speaker as mentioned above, what kind of piezo speaker is compatible with the LI controller remote speaker connection, if any?
    - Any other thoughts or recommendations on this?

    Thanks!
    -Chris.

You could put a bigger speaker in the fuse box that in the glove box here a link to where someone did it.Gadgetman's BMW E60 M5 Laser Interceptor Installation (Completed)

With the V1 at Full volume I have no problem hearing the alerts from that at highway speeds and music loud

I do have trouble hearing the LI but I don't use an external speaker to my LI. All the External speakers that I have heard of the LI are extremely loud, much louder than the stock internal speaker

So you rely on the V1 for laser alerts and don't miss hearing the alerts from the LI? That's what I was hoping.

Well yes generally I keep an ear for the V1 though I do make an effort to minumly slightly hear the LI alerts becuase the V1 is know to give false laser alerts. Soon as I hear the V1 alert laser if my music is loud I turn it down to listen for the LI alert

If you add a extrenal speaker to the LI you will most certainly by able to hear it or you could add the stereo mute set-up to mute the stereo when LI alerts

I don't think relying on your V1 for laser alerts is wise. Most of the time, laser alerts on a V1 are false. Most of the time, laser alerts on the LI are real. I personally think that if you rely solely on your V1 for laser alerts, there is a pretty good chance, over time, that you might lose precious reaction time, because of the lack of trust in the V1 laser alert.

I believe Category4 has a vid with the LI jamming, he's running the external speaker...
I don't think you can use a piezoelectric speaker with the LI, the Escort speaker will work, but it's not a piezoelectric ...

I'm running a nice speaker from Ebay that was $10 under my driver's seat, it works great.

I've heard the LI's alerts are dreadfully slow... It sounds like the best solution is to respond to the V1's alarm by lowering the music and then see if the alert is real by listening for the LI alert.

The question is, how loud is the LI alert without an external speaker? I assume when I turn it on, I will get a feel for the volume and can make a judgement call whether to add a speaker after I've used it for a bit?

    That's overstating it.

I disagree. The LI doesn't have very many false alerts. If it alerts, I want to hear it now. When the V1 alerts, especially without the LI, my first thought is to look for an Infiniti. The Belscort external speaker I use works like a champ and is plenty cheap enough.
