painted rear heads for discreet LI install??

I am about to install my quad LI's on my sl which is white. i have the rear slim heads but they will look too obvious on an all white background. i want to paint the SIDES of the heads white in order to lower its visibility. what do you think? has anyone tried this before?

Why not just wrap the sides of the heads with white electrical tape? If on the other hand you do prefer to paint the sides of the heads, I would use the special white Krylon which is designed to bond to plastic.

I don’t think it will make any difference. All you will basically see is the sensor lens (when looking straight on at the rear), and you can’t paint that anyway.

I wonder if a fair portion of the front (sensor and emitter area on the LI) can be painted white, being careful of course to mask off the specific areas which can't be painted.

breeze- from straight on, yea it looks the same, but otherwise i have these black boxes on an otherwise white car which to me would draw attention and stand out from other angles.

i wish i could paint the top and bottom of the front of the heads to make it look slimmer but that may interfere with the jammer.

I'm fixin to do the same thing to my rear heads when I move them out to the tail lights. But dude, I would NOT paint them! Paint is just going to become discoloured quickly and look like crap. That's assuming your paint job doesn't look like crap to begin with. Just use vinyl tape to cover it. That way it is not nearly as susceptible to weather and grime. And when it does discolour, you can quickly and easily replace it. And if you ever want to sell it or use it on another vehicle, you aren't stuck with white heads.

Funny you post this thread. Yesterday, while going down the turnpike (or was it I-95) we saw this white MB (don't know what model) with what looked like a rear laser jammer head (either Zr3/4 or Jammer K) what was painted white. Not only were the sides white, but also parts of the face. Basically, all that was unpainted was the bubble, and a small square, my guess the receiving diode. Person didn't even react when shot with the LA, so my guess was it didn't work too well.
