Default LI Dual Latest Version Unboxing and Questions

    Hey all,

Just received newest version of LI Dual. Took a few pics of the unbox and have a few questions about install.

You can see the unboxing of the unit, as well as some closeups of version numbers, in the following album:

    ImageShack -

I'm going to install this tomorrow with the help of a friend. I understand all the wiring stuff, it is nothing out of the ordinary and is well explained in the manual.

However, as far as mounting the heads go -- I'm not sure how it is going to work.

Take a look at the grill of my car. It is easily removable, as can be seen by the four screws when the hood is popped. There is plenty of room between it and the radiator to mount whatever needs to be mounted.

My question, though, is about the screws. They definitely are not long enough to pass through the grill, slide through the mounting bracket on the other side, through a washer or two, and then tightened by a lugnut. Should i go out and buy some longer screws? Would that work? Can you buy screws like this at Lowe's etc?

Also, I notice the 4 "elbow" brackets, as well as the 2 big mounting pieces . Are the elbow brackets for mounting directly to the bumper (2 per head), while the 2 longer pieces are for mounting in the grill (one for each side)? I'm assuming if you use the long piece, you cut the remainder of it off? What are the rest of those holes for, anyway?

Here are the 2 long pieces i'm referencing:

The 4 "elbow brackets can be seen in this picture", as well as the tiny screws.

Here is my grill. Heads are going to be mounted at about the height of horse's tail on each side, as far wide as they can go.

4 easy screws to remove grill:

Depth of grill -- i'd say around an inch

The small elbow brackets are for mounting to the bumper or similar connection. The 2 bigger brackets are for mounting using the license plate.

I used them recently to install the heads under the tail light assemblies on a BMW.

So how do i install them to the grill?

In my mind, I had the heads on the outside of the grill, mounting hardware behind, screw running through?

Are you cutting the grille to mount the front heads? If so you might try epoxy or something similar to glue them in place.

I wasn't originally planning on it, no.

I guess I could use the provided wire ties to run through the screw eyelets to the grill?

If i do cut, what do i need to do? remove the grill and dremel?

I don't really want to use epoxy because i don't necessary want them there permanently -- i may get smoked in this location and need to re-mount.

For a stealth install I would use a dremel to cut out slots for the heads. It will help to secure and stealth the heads.

Not sure how curved the grille is, but if it's flat you can put a flat piece of metal (paint it black) behind the grill and get some longer screws to run through the grill and into the metal. This will sandwich the grille between the head and metal to hold it in place.

If it's curved and you do this you will have to make a spacer on on side to space the head out square with the road. This could work as a temporary install until you get it tested to make sure you don't need to tweak the setup before cutting the grille.

Couldn't I do the same thing with the license plate mounting brackets that are already included, and simply cut off the "bottom part" of the bracket and use spacers to make it fit?

Seems to accomplish the same thing without blocking quite as much air to the radiator?

    Edit: Yes, grille is curved
