Yea, shocked the crap out of me My LIDAR encounters are pretty rare in the area I'm working now so I figured my new LI would mostly just be an expensive decoration!
I was I-20W at 147 when the V1 went off. I was passing a car that was going about 80 (Another CTS, I figured I'd show him what a Vettilac could do ) I was probably close to 90 when the V1 alerted. At first I figured it was a false but it was dark and I was out front and alone.
I slowed to around 70 and hit the kill switch when I saw a local parked across the median. I didn't see the officer so I figured he was shooting out the window. There was a disco on the E side and a chase car in the median pointing W.
I had the radio turned up a bit so I never heard the LI go off I wish I had turned the radio down before killing... I really need an aux. speaker. I thought it would be loud enough but I can barely hear it with the radio playing.
I was hauling @ss so I really don't think it was a case of me not going fast enough for them to worry with.
Anyway, It was a really long shot because I'll bet the V1 went off for a good 5 seconds or so before I hit the kill. It stopped alerting at about the same instant that I hit the switch and he came into view!
One strange thing though. After killing it I turned it on almost immediately but when I got off the interstate about 20 minutes later the PA was on I only noticed because I was behind a semi on the ramp and it was beeping. I hit the PA switch and got a "PA deactivated" alert
I'm still figuring the PA switch deal out...
There was also quite a bit of CB traffic but no one called them out until I got there
