Mazdaspeed 6 LI Quad Install.
Completed the install on my quad setup. Definitely more in depth than I originally thought because I wanted to make it a clean install.
I used split loom all throughout to protect the wires form heat/rubbing/vibrations. I used it both in the engine compartment and from the rear trunk deck as well.
I think I will paint the silver brackets that the heads are mounted on black to blend in.
I went the extra step of mounting everything on an aluminum plate that acts as a grounding point as well. I also wanted to install an aux. fuse block to protect the LI and the other accessories that are installed. Once I decided that I wanted to only power the accessories when the ignition is on so I had to install a relay as well.
Other accessories can easily be added to the car by simply pulling power from the fuse block and grounding them to the aluminum plate. I wired the ignition wire of the relay to the wiper circuit close to the factory fuse box near the drivers feet. If you find the Wiper fuse, (20A) the wire coming out of the back of it is blue with a yellow stripe.
There are a couple heads up I can give for the next guy wanting to install the LI Quad on their Mazdaspeed 6 or any car for that matter:
-take a minute to study each of the wires coming out of the head and how the wires correlate with the terminal heads. Document the pinouts, label the wires with colored electrical tape and cut off the terminal quick connectors for install. It will make your life easier to route them through the car. Just be careful because ARE different and installing it wrong can damage the CPU.
-the electrical for the rear lights passes into the trunk deck lid through a flexible rubber conduit with a rubber boot/grommet attached at each end. I thought it would be easy to run the LI wires through there, but it turned out to be too painful to make that mistake twice. If I had to do it again I would have found a similar rubber grommet/boot/conduit from a pick-a-part and installed it on the opposite side of the truck deck lid solely for the LI wires.
-the wires for the rear heads weren't long enough. I had to lengthen them with male to male adapters.
-trying to route the wires through the firewall can be a real pain so I decided to drill a new hole.
-for speed 6 owners, the button that unlocks/locks the trunk is unusable with the LI head mounted where it is. You will need to replace the switch with a custom momentary push switch that can be mounted and accessed near the left license plate light.
I can't think of anything else that could help other installers right now, but I'm definitely open if anybody would like to ask me any questions.
