I have had my LI installed for probably close to a couple months now. Since then, I have come across a few (4-5) laser traps, and each time I made several passes by the LEO to get him to shoot me just to see if my LI's would alert. Sadly, each time I went by, the LEO either had someone else pulled over or had packed up and left.
A few days ago, I came across another laser trap right in my neighbourhood, and after a few passes, I was able to get him to shoot me. My LI alerted, but I was already doing the PSL so I killed it right away to avoid unnecessary attention. I measured that shot afterwards, and it was from around 650'...pretty close.
Today my LI actually saved me - gauranteed! I was late for a meeting and was travelling on a divided road through an industrial area. The PSL is 60 km/h and the last time I looked at my speedo, I was doing around 90 km/h.
As I came around a bend, I was startled by the sound of my LI alert. It took me about half a second to realize what it was, and then in response, I got on the brake and at almost the same time, reached up and turned off the LI (I made sure I had slowed down first ). Parked on the side of the road was a police van with the driver's door open, facing away from me, and the LEO was standing behind (actually, in front of) the opened door, and he was resting his gun in the space between the a-pillar and the door frame.
He was pretty close - I'd say about 500 - 600 feet when he shot me. As I passed him, he never even looked at me, and was still looking through his viewfinder. Once I was past, I watched him in my mirror and he almost immediately stepped out and waved over another car that had been folllowing me (sorry for your luck dude...pick a different rabbit next time!)
So, w/o the LI I would have been toast, no doubt in my mind. This makes it twice now that I have been shot from quite close range and my LI has alerted both times, and definitely jammed on the second (again, the first time, I wasn't speeding so I have no idea if it actually jammed him).
People have commented that my LIs are mounted too low, but I can personally attest to the fact that they have worked perfectly (I think) on 2 very close ambushes, and I am loving this thing more and more. Given all the laser activity I have come across recently, I think I may just have to pick up a couple of rear heads in the near future as well.
As info, here is where my heads are mounted (sorry...crappy cell phone pics):
