I had to drive ~600 miles over the weekend again (on exactly the same route that I driven 2 weeks ago over the holiday).
On Woodscolby’s advice I have now reinstalled my LI heads up high and near to my headlights in the grille center and with the bubbles outwards (I’ll post a pic of my new install later). Also, I have now invested in the Escort external speaker and my LI has gone from muffled/indiscernible to really clear and pretty deafening (even with my music on).
After a few hours on the freeway I came to a place that I recognized well – it was the same spot where I had looped around 3 or 4 times about two weeks ago trying to get shot by a motorcycle LEO that I had spotted shooting LIDAR there (I have now nicknamed this area “laser city”).
Sure enough as I rounded one now familiar curve I saw him there again hiding in exactly the same clump of bushes at the same spot (he is almost impossible to see there). I was originally doing about 75-80 and I started slowing down as soon as I had spotted his helmet and I also immediately had my finger poised and waiting over the LI kill switch.
Within a second all hell broke loose (wow – that little external Redline speaker is VERY loud) – I killed the LI right away after the initial siren sounded. A split second later my Redline also blasted a “laser alert” (too late to possibly save me for sure). This is the first time that my Redline has ever been triggered by police LIDAR.
I’m convinced that he was initially jammed and that he then aimed his gun up higher (thus setting off my Redline) while trying to find a lock. But short of stopping and asking him about this it is just a theory. But if I am right about this then my reinstalled LI is not only more sensitive now but also jamming much more effectively.
Fantastic LI! And thank you Cliff.
Two suggested LI improvements –
1. Add an external speaker volume control (perhaps to the software)
2. Store in memory the last 5 or so LIDAR encounters (I’d love to know what he was using).
Once again I have no idea what gun was actually used because I killed the LI too soon to hear this.
But otherwise I am a very happy customer!
