Default Need help with Audi install (rear) - - connectors too big

    Hi All,
I started looking in earnest tonight as to what it'll take to mount the 2 of 4 heads I have in the rear. Position of the heads is easy, but routing the cable is where the problem is. The connectors are so huge, that 1) I'd have to drill over a 1/2" hole somewhere in my back trunk lid, and 2) the routing from the trunk lid to the main cabin has a flexible wire routing guide that's less than 1/2" in width, so there's no way I can get the connector through there. See pic below:

So - questions: what to do? Only thing I can think of is cutting off the cable end and feeding the wire through, then reattaching. Have others ever done this? I don't see any alternatives at the moment.

    TIA.

You don't have to drill any holes. Here is what I and others do. Remove the lens and bulb assembly that house the license plate lights, use a small rat tail file to make a footing for the cable to run on the side of the existing lamp housing, run the cable into the channel and them snap the housings back into place.

Cliff, could he cut the connector head off, run his wire, then reconnect (solder) the connector head back on?

They are not to be re-soldered. They must be installed un-cut as shipped.

Thanks for the prompt replies here and in email, Cliff. As always: super responsive and helpful.
I would provide the following product feedback, though: the connectors need to be smaller. I have to believe my car is not the only car with this challenge. I can manage the wire getting into the trunk lid via the method you propose, but getting from trunk lid to car (as per my picture) is impossible without now sacrificing the waterproofness of the rubber wire shielding that is in the picture. There just is no other way. I guess I will wrap electrical tape all around the entire run after I slit it open to get the wire in.

Open up the installation bag. Inside you will find 2 pieces of shrink wrap provided and designed specifically for this purpose.

Cliff - Does this apply to the previous style wiring also (no male/female connector for easy changing)? I have cut the wiring at the rj11 connector end when removing the jammers from one car and installing on another, then re-crimped the ends and everything appears to have worked fine... just want to make sure I haven't decreased performance in any significant way.

No. The older, Ver. 8.8 Sensors and earlier versions all used CAT5 and could be cut and then re-crimped or extended with the use of a proper cross-over coupler.
